A follow up on the Rivarossi Allegheny. Earlier this year representatives from Rivarossi Italy visited an authority on the Allegheny on the east coast to improve upon the mold they revealed at the German toy show. They changed the cab area to better reflect the prototype. They also expressed a firm desire continue with the American market. Makes sense since we are the ones who most want the thing! The only hang-up is that an importer deal has not yet been worked out. I don't have any more info on that part at this time. All that was said was that they intended to have the thing ready by later summer or fall of this year. We shall see.

Throttleman, you can e-mail me your e-mail address direct off line if you wish. If you do remind me of what I am to send you because I have lots of requests and send stuff all the time. I never reveal sources. If someone wants to reach you, then I send you his e-mail request, then you can reach him if you wish, or not. I don't operate by forewarding.

John, you made my day with Mantua! Yes it was a TYCO, Bachmann and a Rivarrossi that had the plastic spokes. I have since been told that all mfgr's had gone to the cheapo wheels, so gave up. Thanks.

Can't help you with all your wishes, but Atlas makes a nice U23B, which can be kitbashed into a U30B with relatively little effort...and who I know the Walthers GP15-1 leaves a bit to be desired in some areas, but seeing as how they and Smokey Valley have both done the GP15-1, I don't see another maker doing these in plastic anytime soon. For a better running unit, how about installing P2k trucks and motor in the Smokey Valley GP15-1 frame, and go from there with either the Smokey Valley or Walthers shell?

    Watash,
Do ya remember the old 2-8-0's and the 0-8-0's that TYCO made ????? With what they called Super traction motors and was in the tender of the loco? And that the engine itself had a smoker in it and a puffer and the main driver hit a drag arm to "puff" smoke???? If you remember this I have only one good thing to say about those loco's made by TYCO!!! They make great DUMMIES!!!! I took and ripped the JUNK motor out of the tender and replaced the whole tender frame with and old junk box car frame and got rid of the smoker that didn't do much but blow 2 puffs and it was done!!! So now I use them with my powered steamers as dummies to make double headers or a helper giving a heave ho on the rear of the train, and in reality all its their for is looks!!!! A nice conversation piece at the shows!!! But its their only for the look and the ride. I call that "Thee RECYCLING of TYCO" because I hate to throw any thing away. So I salvage it so it can at least be used. And not to mention kitbashing them as well. Also to keep me busy at thinking of new things to add to them I super detail them like the Rivarossi's and I.H.C. etc are detailed to "fit in" with the rest of my collection. But the dummy steam loco's are all TYCO was ever good for!!!! :D

Crazy but true i'm looking for a few of those old pieces of junk I have a plan that is going to work I just need to find a few more of those junk TYCO loco's to make it happen. If anyone knows of any laying around that sooner or latter is going to end up being pitched in the trash, let me know before they are junked for good i'll pay shipping for them to be shipped to me.

Yeah John, I remember them, I has a couple that are brand new, and one I tried running. It ran OK until the wiper on that axel hit the puffer bar and slid the drivers as it kept going on down the track! HA! It is the pretty "Blue Bird" and now has a Varney tender. I have a motor and gears to make it run, and the tender motor was given to a neighbor kid to put in his diesel. You are right, these TYCO JEWELS are worth a mint for parts and Photos! I think these were around $45 new and are still new. No way am I going to junk brand new anything. My wife sees some on E-Bay and there are some on RailServe's add listing for sale, but they are worth more than I paid for these! :D

Well I just got part of my wish list. I was able to get a P2K Heritage 2-8-8-2 today for only 247.95 new off the shelf. Man was I happy!! I am sure looking forward to trying it out this weekend. Are they really as good as I have heard from others on this board??

    Thanks.

Not a bad concept.....if I recall, someone I know had Athearn motor, drive, and trucks on
the SV chassis. If I can find the GP15 kit, I'll try it out. Thanks!

I wouldn't mind seeing a reasonable Fairbanks-Morse H-16-12 switcher to buy. Walthers made one and the price is rediculous!!! $80.00 for a diesel that will pull around 8 to 10 cars and the speed was said to excessivly fast. To bad I can't find a body to one and mount it on a Athearn chassis or something. Its been awhile that loco might not even be made today thinking about it..... :D But its something different in the world of diesel switchers!
