Hi all, I thought I had traced my wobbly F59PHI's problems to motor damage inflicted during the decoder installation. It seems I was wrong. I was doing some testing with the layout converted back to DC. Just out of curiousity, I placed the F59 on the tracks and turned the power up- it ran off down the mainline smoothly! mg: I switched back to DCC, and it limped away in a Bachmann-like fashion. My guess- the decoder (a Digitrax DZ143) doesn't like the 3-pole motor. Is there a CV I can adjust or something? On a related note, I have a B23 with the exact opposite problem. Runs well on DCC, jerks horribly on DC.
Reset the decoder back to the factory default settings and then re-program the loco address. Stay cool and run steam....
That did it! Of course, it has absolutely no speed control and a top speed of 600 scale mph. Guess I need to do a proper job of programming speed tables.
