Yesterday a truck pulling a low-boy trailer came by the house and delivered this new outbuilding to my back yard. It's just under 12 feet wide by 30 feet in length, and will be used as storage for various items until our home remodeling is done. At that time, it is supposed to become my new train room/man cave/doghouse (feel free to pick one). I'm not closing it in & wiring it up just yet until we need to have it done.

More incentive to get the house remodeling finished. Plus, plenty of time to doodle new track plans..........................

Nice! You are going to insulate it? As a former resident of Oklahoma, it can pretty cold in Muskogee.

Nice one Bob. Is that an off-the-shelf type fro a local home improvement, or did you purchase directly from a supplier?

Poppy- not only can it get a mite chilly (and I'm from an area with subzero winter days as a norm), but also hot & muggy as well- thank you, Arkansas,Verdigris & Grand Rivers,,,,,,

Marc- I got this from a company in Norman,OK that custom-builds portable buildings of various designs. ANd before I do any layout construction, I do plan on wiring it up & closing it in with insulation & sheetrock, so it can be at least comfortable with a window air conditionser in summer and a space heater or two in winter. One part of the building will be used for my wife's home-based business ( plastic bowls, plates, spice containers, etc., plus pots, pans & knives) as storage, while the rest (about 2/3) will be allocated to my own little 1:87 empire. I figure 12 by 24 feet should work, especially since it'll be mostly a shelf layout.

And as soon as it warms up a mite, I'll get atop the roof & trim back some of those tree branches. The cable over the top of this building is a connection to the local cable service (which I don't use, as we have DirectTV), but I'll place something on it to keep it from rubbing on the roof.

Wow. Betcha a lot of pencils will be abused in months to come, with many an idea being sketched.

    Neat!
If you are considering more permanent heating/cooling alternatives for protecting locos and electronics from extreme temps in winter and summer...
FYI--We built a 24x42 garage/cottage a few years ago. The garage is insulated but unheated, and the cottage area is heated by a through-the-wall heater/air conditioner (just like you see in motel rooms). Works like a charm summer of winter, and since the cottage space is only 24x24, we leave the heat at 58, the lowest setting, through the winter to protect the water pipes in the bathroom and kitchen areas or a/c off in the summer until shortly before we need a more comfortable temperature.

Will security be an issue for you? Since my wife and I have rooms in our house for our hobbies, security needs in our garage/cottage are minimal. A neighbor down the road has motion sensor activated lights and video cams protecting the tools and equipment in his garage/machine shop, but so far has only captured deer and racoons.

FWIW...We also ran telephone and cable connections to our cottage and the wireless signal from our house is strong enough to let overnight guests in the cottage use their laptops to go online. Will you be streaming model RRg videos in your man-cave? ;-)

Nice layout shed. It should be just enough space for a layout. ;)
