I'm installing an HO open deck grider bridge..I have 2, 1x3 (3/4"x 2 1/2") about 7-8 inches high which, after adding river bottom, plaster banks/stones/soil/glues/colors, and (maybe) water (maybe dry river bed/highway/other), I will attempt to make look like concrete piers..I'm imagining whittling the corners and sanding them until becoming an oval shape from top view. Then larger, oval 'feet' at bottoms, in the water using, say 1/2" ply. Anybody done it this way yet ? Any warnings or suggestions are very welcome...(I'm aware they won't taper toward the top)
