Where is Tim with his injection molding? When you stop and think how these cars came from your own doing, I'd say they look just fine.
Wow that car is realy neat! Are you planning a more modern paint scheme like BN or MRL? How about a woodchip loader? WOW that's neat, especialy for Z.
Posting a Photo Hey Robert. I was inspired by your Chip Hopper and have made a styrene pattern for one to cast at home...want to post a photo but I get a warning about the photo file being too big..250kb. How do I resize this so I can post some photo's Joe
Hi Joe, if you sign up for a railimages account, link at bottom of this page, you can upload your pictures there, and while uploading it they will resize automatically to 640 x 480. If you download the free program Irfanview, it will also let you resize photos. Please post you pics! I sent Loren a sample of on of my cars this morning, so you can see how I did it. I sent him one of the Maxon cars built for WP, as I have that recipe down ok, but the NP/GN Deep Rib still needs work.
Very nice Joe! I made up some decals for NP that are good for that car, and if you add a mid panel brace to long panels 1 and 12 the car changes from a Thrall into a Gunderson and I have NP, and GN decals for that one. Email me off list if you need some.
Hey Joe, That looks pretty good! You cut this in styrene with a laser, built it, and then made castings. Do I have this right? Better watch out you'll put MTL out of business ; )
Seeing as I work for them... ) Not in the cards! No, I built it out of Evergreen Styrene stock and laid up by hand. This is only the Plastic pattern, tonight I hope to do some molds and casting for that fleet of wood powder we want at CORP.. Joe
Progress! Joe, any progress on the mold? Did you get to pour it last night? I think this is a very unique piece of rollingstock! Display photos! By The Way! What type of mold material do you use? Casting resins? Do you buy from Micro-Mark? Smooth-On? Just curious! Hobo Tim
Progress Hi Tim, Got things ready to go, did some more measuring and it was a bit to fat (I can relate) so I took the bottom and sides off and made new ones. It's on the drying rack now and I hope to get it finished early in the week. I went ahead and scratch built the pattern for the Southern Pacific smooth side Wood Chip Gon on Saturday, got it molded and cast up a hand full. I will hand-work the undersides to accept the trucks for the three I need now. I want the cars to sit lower and want body mounts but I forgot to bring a couple home with me from work...so, got one put together to run on the test track in the AM. I figured out how to get the wheels and trucks to fit deeper in the underside by cutting out a well on either side of the Bolster...look much better now. I'm going to have this initial bunch loaded up so the false bottom is not a problem. I'll post all the photo's of the parts and pieces Monday Morning when I get to work. My computer here won't read my stupid camera. I tried to give one to Loren Saturday Night and he said "what am I going to do with this?" Got some suggestions? ) Cheers Joe Brand X
I did my 5th bodystyle of woodchip gon this weekend, the SP/Golden West Service 59' shallow rib gon. Last night I made decals for (VCY) Golden West Service and dullcoted this morning. I'll post pics after work, but it looks like I have some trade fodder for you lumber types. -Robert
I just now got some pics, and discovered that Railimages is down for maintenance, so I'll post tomorrow.
