    Great video, thanks David.

Sounds like 3237 had a leaking steam chest seal, or was the pulsing noise coming from another source....?

It is a steam leak. Be kind to the old girl, she is 117 years old. :)

And some of the later photos look like the California wine country where I live. Very cool! Gotta love golden grass and oak trees!

If having 3237 main line wasn't enough, how about two of the lovely P class!

Powerhouse Museum's 3265, which has been under restoration for nearly a decade, made a (supposedly) secret test run from Eveleigh to Penrith in the wee small hours this morning. Diesel loco 4501 was on the rear of the train an extra 115t of test load, and insurance!

3265 was one of only a handful of NSWGR locos to be named.

    Cheers

    David,

did you take the video yourself? that is awesome. what are the plans for 3265? Will it eventually move to Thirlmere once the new facility is completed?

Powerhouse Museum? Great place and one of my favorite places in Sydney. They have the fourth steam engine ever built in the world on display. They run it every hour or so on compressed air.

But this steam engine is not at the Powerhouse, is it? There are tracks that run right by the museum. Thanks.

It's not at the Powerhouse but it is owned by the Powerhouse, as is 3830 (also operational). 3265 and 3830 are based at Eveleigh.

Yesterday's triple header to Moss Vale via Unanderra. They sounded magnificent slogging up the 1 in 30 (3.3%) gradient from Unanderra to Summit Tank, then the sprint to Moss Vale. 3526 and the diesels went light to Thirlmere and the train returned via Robertson.

This is the last trial run. Note three heavier cars on this train compared to the previous ones, a more generous turn of speed and a hard slog up Cowan Bank. 3265 now goes back into the shops for repainting into its 1930s maroon livery.

The other big news is a third P class will be on the main line soon, although not in steam. NSWRTM's 3214 is being transferred from Thirlmere to Valley Heights in the next month or so.

    Cheers

I have read this thread but cannot see the pictures. There is just a little box with a red x in it. I tried copying and pasting the URL but got an error message. What am I doing wrong?

I am curious about this last video. The train stops twice just at the beginning of station platforms. I am guessing that the first stop was a safety stop since I see the station was a stub-end terminal with run-around x-overs. I am at a loss as to what the second stop was for unless it was to receive orders or a clearance card since there was no platform spot and the train moved out quite quickly.

The first could have been an oops or photo opportunity.

For the second, the most likely explanation is the signal at the end of the platform (SY467M?) was at stop awaiting the points to reverse to the Illawarra Dive (when the train got to the signal it was yellow over red = turnout caution). The train would have pulled up at the beginning of the platform to prevent anyone joining the train if it had stopped in the platform waiting for the signal to clear.
Orders and clearance cards aren't used, though the train's movement would have been advertised in a Special Train Notice (STN) issued by Operations.

3265 on its first public trip from Sydney to Moss Vale via Unanderra. The assisting 45 class is an Alco DL541, one of the Goodwin-Alcos built in Australia.
