Thanks so much! :) Yep, it is a great add-on to our already busy lives, but no doubt this is our most favorite part! :) Glad that you liked it - stay tuned for the next updates on the grain portal, I am expecting to do some more progress there.

Just a couple of pictures - nothing much to describe - two concrete silos, the central access elevator between them and the conveyor housing on top. You can see the complete Pneumatic grain unloader and some conveyor basic structure in the front.

Next, the grain elevator, the conveyor belt housing and grain barge to complete this - long work ahead! :)

    Kaustav and Mouli,

What a great thread. I have only recently begun exploring Trainboard and finding your thread on Wrightsville Port was a real treat. I am a long time modeler and found a lot of new modelling techniques to try out for myself. You are a talented modeler and how great it must be to share this hobby with your wife.

I look forward to following your work.

    Continued success,
    -Steve

    Kaustav and Mouli,
The new construction is pretty cool, don't forget some bird nests here and there for the sea gulls when you get around to them LOL!
The Pneumatic grain unloader is way cool and could be used for all sorts of dry bulk cargo, such as cement , wood pulp etc. dont forget the bag house to filter out the dust or the EPA will be all over you ... and you need some sort of static discharge apparatus protection as well . Or you could model a grain dust explosion with fire ... fire fighting tugs and several fire trucks / pumpers etc. that'd be pretty good. No ambulances as no one got hurt ... :) .. well it was just a though ....

Thank you all! Time literally flew by in last one month and I never got chance to visit the board - sorry about the late responses...

Thanks Steve - glad that you like the layout. I went through your website and I am very impressed with your work as well, and needless to say, I have a lot to learn as well... :)

Thanks PaperKite! There are some great scenes you explained there in those few lines, thanks so much! :) I will surely incorporate quite a few of those. :)

    Thanks Rowan! :)

Thanks AJ - sometimes I myself get confused about what I like more - ships or trains! Possibly that's the reason, I chose this theme! :D

Some wonderful holiday gifts - AFTER A LONG TIME

Well, it's been a long, long time since I indulged in some real guilty pleasure, so when one of my best friends was returning to India from Texas, I couldn't help asking her to get a few stuff for me - A small lot of some of the treasures I've been eying for ages!

Now for the sneak peek on the lot:

The trucks made by Herpa - the red and the blue heavy trucks. The depressed flat car on which the red one sits is a Micro-Trains kit.

The black and the white trucks in the kit, well the containers are not the part of the kit of course!

Here is the rest of the lot - still in packets - trees, a couple of MT box car kits, an oil tanker, Model Power lights, WS biker gang, six Kato cars...

Now, coming to the last bit, one of my most dearest purchases so far - the Kato NW2! and I took the liberty to appoint fat Mack the job of the engineer, along with putting some black paint on the smoke stacks. Here are some photos, and a video.

I have to say it's the best switcher that you can have in N scale! Extra ordinary in detail, with a clear interior cab where you can even put a figure, very nice external detailing, excellent pulling power and slow speed performance - highly recommended for every N scaler!

And now, here is a quick birds eye view of the port - Did I mention that I completed the grain elevator in the mean time? I guess not! :)

Stay tuned for more updates... Yes, there is more... :)

    Fall In Wrightsville Port

Well, I think this is the perfect time to model some Fall scene - so here is how Fall looks like in Wrightsville Port:

The big trees are JTT tree kits - mostly in various shades of Green, the Fall mix is JTT set of 60 1.5" - 3" tall plants, shrubs, undergrowth etc. I also included a few home made armatures that I made from dead basil plants.

I now like the way the background blends into the layout - the hill which was supposed to provide a transition from the layout to the backdrop, and serves its purpose the way I imagined it.

These are snaps using the phone camera, as my camera battery died yesterday night - better shots of the scene and individual trees coming later. Till then - enjoy! :)

Well, it's been over a year for some of the lamps that are sitting there in my storage, so during the Thanksgiving vacation, I decided to install them on the layout. Well, as for the methods etc. there is nothing much to explain than "drilling holes here and there, fixing the tiny lamps and wire them with the power supply", but the actual work was time consuming given I had to install quite a few at the same time. I will just go with the photos:

As you can see in the last photo, I've also made a small platform for the RDC which should help my tiny commuters get in and out of the coach! :)

Happy New Year to all my railroading friends! :)

To start the new year with good spirit, here is the progress since the Thanksgiving vacation. Well time did fly in this last one month!

My focus is to install more lights in the existing part of the layout at the moment. All my high voltage (12-16V) lights are installed, so all that I am left with are LEDs and 1.5 v micro bulbs.

First, two spot light on top of the freight house facing the loading dock. This are 2mm Model Power Micro bulbs on top of 2mm dia aluminium tube and inside a thin cardboard housing, having aluminium foil as reflector. I wouldn't say that they serve a great purpose in lighting the area (which you can't expect from a 1.5V/2mm ulb anyway!) but they are very nice cosmetic touch with a great deal of realism.

In the photo above, you can also view the "actual" spot lights made of a couple of white LEDs and you can spot that on the far left of the photo, right in front of the bridge. These twin 3mm LED white spot lights actually make the area light up!

Now, the next bit were a couple of spot lights on the jib of the cranes:

    More Lights!

Both are Mitey Lites 1.5 mm/1.5V micro bulbs in thin card stock housing and aluminium foil reflector inside. In the photos, you can spot the thin wires if you look carefully. The connection to these lights were done through the rails on which the cranes stand. Here is an overall photo:

Now, the last bit was a flood light, a glimpse of which you can see on the picture above. For this one, I made a lamp head with six 3mm white LEDs on a 110mm tall tower.

I have also changed the color scheme of the super structure lighting of the container ship, Betelgeuse and changed it to white from yellow. Good quality yellow LEDs are extinct in this part of the world and I didn't have enough to replace the burnt ones.

At last, here is a view of the whole port from about 500 yards into the Atlantic!
