I have had to move my layout again, this time to the small spare bedroom. I took the brazen step to screw the bench work to the walls (not moving it again). It is a L shaped shelf layout that is 9X10', 2' wide with the ends 3' wide. It's DCC (NCE PowerCab) The plan looks a little busy and I will probably reduce the amount of track at some point. John
Thanks guys. I am getting out my box of buildings and will see where they look best on the layout. I have quite few backdrop buildings to use along the walls or to separate sections. I'll post some photos when I have some of the buildings in place. John
I'll add a few things : As you seemingly have no ability to turn around locos, even if you run 2 trains in opposite directions, those trains or locos alone will always have to travel in one direction (this side of 0-5-0 ing things ). Also, for variety you may want to put the very rear track on a grade. Not allot , but enough to give it a look of it coming from and going to other places. Related: You could take the bumper off that lone spur on right (bottom photo) and extend track right to the very edge of bench so as to represent an interchange connection to the outer world. Cars would be spotted here as inbound or outbound and/or a place to introduce differing cars to 'your' RR via 0-5-0 staginging. Off of it you could have an engine house track and/or a turntable. Finally, if you get direct sun in that window don't let any rolling stock or engines sit in front of it very long. They can warp, including plastic ties... Could add a low facia across window to block sun..M
MarklinLA, Thanks for your good suggestions. I hadn't placed my turntable when I took the last photos. Here is an updated picture. John
