You can see why they're rarely seen on model railroads...

I was surfing some rail photo sites when I came across this...

So, I decided to surf just a bit more (nappy time) and found...

Scroll down the page and get a taste of how operations on your railroad might be affected.

Almost as rare in the real world, I've never seen such a massive oversize load round here.

Wondering... do any of you model such equipment or have photos of prototypes?

Is this the same type car that went through Denver, Colorado last summer? I noticed the white trucks at the end.

I took a series of photos of BBCX 1000 and are posted on the Schnabel Car website you referred to (mine are the ones taken at the Rush Island Power Plant).

I would like to either build a model of this car someday, or pick up one of the Overland brass models currently being offered. Come on Santa Claus!

Looks quite similar to the noted earlier this year. I wonder how many model railroads could handle one of these?

Count me out. I can not even handle a PA-1 on my turns.

I'm impressed with the wealth of information in photos and stats provided so freely by the folks on these and like sites. The photos suggests that many of these cars could be scratchbuilt using either styrene, brass or a combination as well as some off the shelf components... and after I gather a bit more info, I might give it a go... prolly just for display sake (but with an option for some type of operation).

Thanks again to both those providing sites with lots of photos and info as well as to forumites who are kind enuff to post those links here!
