I know something is wrong because I can buy "fix" decals. There IS something wrong.....that's not the question. The question is should a customer have to pay to fix an item that came incorrectly configured from the factory.
That is a possible and ligitimate outlook to take on this subject. BTW....your comment about the Howdy-Doody color gave me a laugh. That was awesome!! LOL With that said...are the cars worth the top end price to have this "mis-coloring"? Hmmmmmm.....I don't know. That would be an individual choice. My inclination would be probably yes. I guess that would make this a "ok" item rather than an "excellent" item.
A true story about railroad paint choices> A few years ago I was about to repaint our family owned Soo Line wood caboose which we had enjoyed for thirty years. I went and purchased the paint and had done the necessary prep work and was getting the sprayer rigged up to paint the car when a railfan showed up and asked if he could have a paint chip for his modeling needs. I told him to go ahead and help himself as he raved over it being the absolute, correct shade of red for Soo Line cabooses. At that point he asked me where I purchased the paint and what the mix was so his modeling would reflect the right paint. I am afraid his bubble was burst when I told him to check the paint can for the name: Fleet Farm (a local farm supply store) BARN RED! T say his face was crestfallen would be an understatement. While I am particular about some colors like IC orange, remember it's only a hobby and life will go on even if in a darker/lighter shade of color. Barry
I don't know what to say. I guess the best advice is to vote with your wallet and go elsewhere if you think you've gotten burned. Having to pay shipping for warranty work is not that unusual nor is it restricted only to model trains. I can't change these company's policies. Good luck with your situation!
I'd like to clarify something as it's not clear from this discussion. We got the IC colors wrong (in the opinion of many but not all) on our HO coach and duplex sleeper in 2006, when the company first got off the ground in the RTR market. We've since released two more cars with acceptable colors, and a fifth IC car is coming out soon. The darker cars have been sold out from most stores for well over a year. The IC coach and duplex sleeper represent less than 1% of the cars we've produced to date. I hope that our entire line of passenger cars in HO (and now in N) will not be judged purely on the basis of those two cars. Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement as we launch into N scale. As I am not on the forums all the time, you can always send feedback through the contact page on our web site: Rapido Trains Inc. - Contact Us Dan and I read every email and there are no form letter responses. I thought the IC cars were HO. I thought this was an N scale forum. Kind of a lot of discussion about an off-topic item, don't you think?
Rapido/Panorama Line is bringing out N-scale versions of these cars starting in 2009 ... but, Yes, their current offering is in HO. :tb-err:
