Well it's about time I chip in with a scheme. After much debate, several samples...Hey I finally found a use for those Reader's Digest dummy locomotives....paint testers Here's the newly approved scheme for the Augsburg and Concord Railroad. The railroad herald will be located behind the cab, in between the cab and the Roadname. I just don't have a pic of that. As always, comments are welcome. Jeff Augsburg & Concord R.R. Here is my first try at a paint scheme for my freelance railroad, the Texas & Gulf Coast. I tried to keep it simple as this short line has a small operatring budget. All EMD roster to keep the replacement parts budget in check. One of the managers mentioned getting some Alco's at a real good price one time & the operating department almost lynched him. Not a pretty sight. I have a couple of SD-35s that I picked up for a very good price at a recent train show & the Fort Worth & Denver never ran any SD-35s. I am using a laser printer to make the decals to keep costs down. I downloaded the SD-35 .gif from Railroad Paintshop & painted it in Paintshop Pro 7. The grey trucks are supposed to be Silver but I may just leave them black when I actually get around to stripping & painting them. [ 11. November 2002, 07:04: Message edited by: GP40X ]
Bill, First things first: welcome to Trainboard! Second, it's great to have someone else from the D-FW area in here. The paint scheme looks nice- would like to see a brace of GP38s painted up, lugging freight across the Panhandle. Since it looks like the TrinityNTrak bunch going to be at the Ft. Worth show this upcoming weekend, I'll try to look for you- I'm currently in negotiations to get down there with the boys from Sherman. (the missus is a tough negotiator, but since I'm gonna meet old friends there, I'm sure of a trip down.) Once again, welcome aboard! [ 11. November 2002, 10:24: Message edited by: friscobob ]
Here's my entry...only a month late - guess I should check this section of Trainboard more often! This is MY short line railroad that can be seen lashed up periodically with the SLSF and sometimes SP.
Thanks for the welcome Bob. Good to be here. Speaking of GP-38s, I have a pair of Santa Fe GP-38's that will also get the scheme as soon as I can find a couple of undec shells. While I can strip most shells with no problems, as a former Sante Fe modeler, I can't bring myself to strip that beautiful Warbonnet paint scheme. I also have three Life-Like Burlington Route GP-20s, Atlas GP-30, 2 GP-35s, & GP-40 that will get the Texas & Gulf Coast paint scheme and the new Digitrax DZ-123 decoders when they come out too (FW&D never had any of these units either). Hopefully I can find some shells & a few more SD-35s & GP-38s at the train show (depends on if my decoder order comes in or not). I just got my Zephyr last week & can't play with it yet due to NO decoders. Both shops I deal with (Hobby Workd & Discount Model Trains) are out of stock on the decoders I need
Here is my D&H SD90MAC. It will soon be joined by SFD&H SD90MAC and BAC for the merger with the SF. We also have the Zia Rail, a short line that serves a mine and power plant (mostly modern GE equipment and a few switchers). Finally there is the RGV(Rio Grand Valley) Older GE equipment.
Thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth. Here is a view of my upcoming paint scheme. Am a big fan of the Milwaukee Road, and Northern Pacific RY out west. So this freelancer connects two real points of the Milw in western Washington. Plus major interaction with the NP. Also, there is a logging RR in the mix. Grandiose plans. Just as soon as I finish the basement..... Boxcab E50
Thanks Friscobob for the reference and your ideas to a name. i liked the Fraser River Line and the SA&P. Now for a paint scheme. This is what i came up with: Unfortunately i changed the name to the TransAlberta Rail so the spacing is not exact. i will have to adjust. But i look forward to any comments. [ 21. Well, I've finally gotten some pictures of the new paint scheme. Now, I have to admit, these were only taken on top of the car, in rather cloudy conditions, with a cheap digital camera. But, here they are: Jeff Augsburg & Concord R.R. (a fictional shortline in Central Illinois) http://www.pegnsean.net/~revnjeff
That's what happens when a car is left parked outside during all kinds of weather...it is no longer smooth, but sort of pockmarked... Jeff Augsburg & Concord R.R. (a fictional shortline in Central Illinois) http://www.pegnsean.net/~revnjeff
Here's a picture of my current scheme. I still need a logo. I'm also thinking of maybe red instead of Yellow on my newer engines. [ 26. November 2002, 20:11: Message edited by: YoHo ]
I sometimes wonder if location should play any part in determining color. As an example, it might be dangerous to use a white/very lt. grey on locomotives (such as KCS) in the Northeast, because of the poor visibility in blizzards. Just a thought. [ 28. That's how I feel about all-black locomotives- can't see the darn things at night. All-white locomotives stick out like sore thumbs in the green Ozarks (where Kansas City Southern runs), but really shows the filth over time. I guess as long as it's not pink, mauve, or some pastel shade, it's a good color. (solely my opinion, of course)
