Re: The CNJ Caboose. The body is clearly one of the Nelson Grey/Kadee/MTL lineage. These first were sold as kits (1978-1982) by Nelson Grey, who sold his injection molds to Kadee, whos N & Z lines later became Micro-Trains. But there are also some customizations. All of the MTL versions I have seen do not have the ladder end loops on the roof. There is a marker lamp add on part, and in the center of the copula there appears to be a yellow circle there. The MTL caboose does not have window glazing, and the window glass looks to be painted in Kristal Klear windows. There is the possibility this is a custom paint job, but it could also be a customized pad printed Kadee car. Check the bottom of the car and see if there is any stamping of the frame that says "N.W. Grey", "Kadee" or "MTL".
Curn, Thanks for the additional info. On closer inspection, it say Micro Trains under the trucks. The caboose also looks like it might have been customized. Here are several more interesting specimens. 1. A non-motorized boxcab. Looks to be plastic with moving trucks. 2. A small offset side hopper. The hooper looks to be made up of multiple cast parts. It also has Marklin couplers. 3. A well car that is cast. I was wondering if this can be from Chicago Railcar Co.
After visiting the Ztrack resale sight, I realized that the well car is resin Ztrack drop belly flat car, and it comes with a load. Scott
