I'm wondering how well Micro-Trains 905 couplers work with magnetic uncoupling. I have some experience with an HO club layout. Most of the stock has Kadee number 5 couplers but some have number 58 which is smaller and closer to scale. They work fine together in a train, but when you try to uncouple them it's really hard. Two 5s uncouple fine as do two 58s. So the question really is; If I wanted to use Z scale couplers and magnetic uncoupling, would I have to convert all the stock for reliable operation or is a mix of things ok? Does anyone have experience with this? I know that for just running trains it's fine to mix them in. Thanks, Gareth
My guess would be that the z scale coupler would stay hooked do to the smaller knuckle size compared to the standard n scale coupler. They sure do look more scale!
this thread showed several methods (URLs to other webpages with detailed construction instructions) for uncouplers and one of them was quite insensitive to the height of the uncoupler pin. I belive he mentioned that it was 'compatible' with the Z couplers... http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine...do-I-make-a-Magnet-Uncoupler&highlight=magnet
