I'm working on a variation of the GS&S with a few additions including a runaround and loop to allow continuous running. Baseboard is 20" x 48". Here it the current state. All switches are hand laid, the track mostly regrettably, is not. I learned the hard way that Peco flex and ME Code 55 are not the same height. Control is DC. It can be operated with one, two or three locomotives. Thanks for reading. Take care, Brent
Very cool. I take it that the inner tunnel on the right is the way to the second level? Can we see a shot from the back of the layout? I'm always curious to see how much tunnel access people put in.
Rocket Jones, You are correct. The two outermost tunnels are the continuous loop. The innermost tunnels are the entrance and exit to the second level. There are six blocks in the layout. The outer loop is one block. The inner "helix" is the second. The third and fourth are short blocks in the center at the back on both tracks so a locomotive can be stopped or parked there while operations take place on the upper or lower level. The fifth is a short locomotive park at the end of the lower left switch lead. The sixth is similar at the upper right end of the switchback. Being Z scale I was very concerned about access for cleaning so left lots of room. The layout will be boxed in but have removable panels providing access to what is shown in the pictures. Now that I have learned to treat the track with CRC 2-26 I'm much less concerned about cleaning. Thanks for reading. Take care, Brent
