The Thrall-Door all door boxcars are cars I need to fit my new module. They were designed in the 1960's to carry higher dollar wood products that normally went into boxcars, but were cumbersome and slow to load. It's a predecessor to the Centerbeam cars, which Thrall also invented. Here is the beta model I slapped together Sunday, which still needs a few design tweeks: Here is tonight's work, the artwork for decal sets for my favorite schemes. I can't wait till the weekend so I can build a few for my collection!
Robert, Well done!!! I really like the Bosie Cascade Thrall. Hope VectOboard is working well for you!! Chris
Yes, I can't do it without VectOboard. It's better than the brown .011" Lazerboard material because it's a bit more flexible allowing you to cut thinner parts. It also has a bit smoother finish too, and rasters a bit better too. I used it for the roof as well as the doors. I also used the thick brown Lazerboard for the end parts, which saved me stacking layers.
Vectoboard is a dimensionally stable material that is perfect for sharp detail. Won't burn or curl. Ideal tooling for precision lasers. Takes paint and acrylic adhesive like nothing else. Needs little to no sanding and does not show any grain or inconsistantcies, read artifacts. The best material is the black.
Yer killin me man. You need a sponsor, so that you can just stay home all day, all weekend and create. Just when ya think there's not anything more that you have not created already.....you top it. I'm coming over in a week or two. Load me up brother, load me up. Keep up the good work!
Robert, Where did you purchase the Vectoboard from and could it be used to scratch-build like styrene with an X-acto knife? John
Chris Tatarian had been trying samples of thinner material similar to Lazerboard, and found a new material he calls VectOboard. He sent me samples, and sure enough it is just like laserboard, but thinner, and black. The finish is smoother than the .011" Brown Lazerboard, so it rasters a bit cleaner. It is also a bit more flexible so it don't break as easily. The material is black, .011" thick, and available with or without the peel & stick adhesive, for cheaper than you can get the brown lazerboard for, and the peel & stick material saves money too because you don't have to buy a whole $180 roll of it, just buy your VectOboard with it already applied.
Don, he does need a Sponsor. "Hi, my name is Rob and I'm a Laserholic". Great looking stuff Rob. Think I'll get a few sheets for scratching. .
Ben, No, wish I did. Currently don't have the funds, time or computer skills to own one. However always looking to improve productivity of my Nansen Street Models items Nansen Street Models with new material. Currently all my products are cut by others through The N Scale Architect which NSM is a division of. John
I ran home after work today, and printed out my first decal set, then laser precut them for easier application...NOT! This was a real hassle to decal, because the decals are so small. I made them to scale, and most of the little ones are not readable, but from 1 foot away, they are ok:
If interested in VectOboard sm please contact christatarian@sbcglobal.net. I got to see it for real tonight and it looks much better than the pictures. I couldn't keep my eyes off of it. Chris
