    John,
The issue isn't the printers its the data. How long does it take to get all the measurements of a car into a CAD system and then make all the necessary adjustments to that data to work with the printers? About this time last year, people were wondering why Intermountain was talking so long to release the cylindrical hopper. I asked during a visit there last May and they spent "greater than 1000 man-hours" on the car ( 1/2 of a work year).
Also there are some geometries that can't be printed because items have to be self supporting during the printing process.

M4D rapid prototyping cars are not 3D printing, it's another process, much superior, can't recall the name, but the surface is 1000 times better than Shapeway stuff. Not cheap...like AZL or others...the car kit is about $30 incl. trucks and it takes as much assembly as a badly shipped MTL or AZL car. O.K., you have to paint and decal, but that's the fun bit.
