Looking forward to the show. This will be my third show and the date has been on my calendar since last year's show. Looking forward to seeing Kev's latest layout, which was featured in the October edition of "Continental Modeller". (Note to spell checker, "Modeller" is correct in the UK). Of course, I am interested to see all the others as well. Another one which I always enjoy is the narrow gauge TT scale using Z gauge track, which, I think, is Blair Hobson's South Bohemia Layout.

I shall probably drive up from Devon on the day, which is a 400 mile round trip, and by far my longest car journey of the year.

Forgot to mention I'll do a full report afterwards as usual and send a write up to Rob at Z-Track.

just had some of IvanFs USATC 0-6-0T bodies come from Shapeways so I'm going to get them fitted and painted before the show. I'll post pics of these on the 'Whats on my workbench' thread over the weekend

Nobby has let me know that his Hanzauff layout will also be attending.

I was in touch with Peter the Zedex organiser this week and suggested that I did a display of what is available in British Z which he was keen on. But then I had to do a bit of headscratching on how best to display Z stock which is small and hard to see .

I needed something that was a consistent size and could be layered up to make a stepped display and the solution, surprisingly, came from a problem me and the wife are currently having with our kitchen units!

I had rebuilt the kitchen and dining room a few years back with new carcasses and white glossy doors from a big D.I.Y chain in the U.K (B&Q) the kitchen looked clean and bright but recently a problem manifested itself with the gloss coating peeling off in one piece. I changed a few doors and put the faulty ones in the layout shed while I decided what to do next.

I found that the machined edge looks quite good so made a start building the layers up with sections swan of the side of the doors

Simply held together with wood screws you can potentially quite high should you wish. Once I had the back board on the whole lot was sprayed with Red Oxide primer and allowed to dry. Next.. track?

I didn't want to tie up any Peco or Marklin track but did have a lot of the display track from the Atlas editions collectables. Although slightly wide gauge it looks the part so was assembled into lengths and nailed down with panel pins

    result was this

The backboard will have the blurb on it before the show
