Back in the day, Lajos Thek would send me alot of his 0-6-0 Marklin loco's for me to machine so they would fit inside of the SW1 shell. He also sent me odds-n-end pieces where by I could make a second perhaps third SW1 for myself. As I mentioned earlier, I need to dig deep to see exactly what I have. I do know that not very many people who purchased the original SW1 kit actually put them together. The main reason was the ability to machine the Marklin 0-6-0 chassis was not an easy task. I'll see if I can find the items today. Hobo Tim
I think the next one would turn out better. I've learned a lot doing these little kits. I had to hand roll the cab roof and cut and bend the hand rails to fit.
You are doing well so far. I did build mine also from a leftover fret. Make sure you get a chassis with a 5-poler, they run well considering only 2 axles have electrical pickup.
This really has me motivated to get to work on the 2 that i have. one kit that hasn't bin started and the other is pre-built and only needs painting and couplers added. Has anyone tried putting a decoder in one of these?
I was wondering about the chassis use for it! Can any one tell me where I can get two? I have two SW1500 I want to get running but no chassis. are they using the powermax motors v2. I bought four of them! but getting them attached to have movement to make curves is my problem! My shell has room with movement in both directions. I really don't know to many guys that do this kind of work on building chassis! Except for people like you that has done it before! I did a cow and Calf A&B unit!
That's a heavily converted Marklin 0-6-0 steam engine chassis, the middle axle removed and some non-swivel dummy wheels added at both ends. To answer your question Walt, it's not honing to fit your shells. Your hunt needs to continue....
I don't have DCC experience myself (yet), but next decoder might be small enough to fit. http://www.tran.at/Produkte/DCX74z.shtml
