Mister Kluz - I and Hal, my grandson look at your Z Bahn car set. Why is it $500 of cost? Cars look like Maerklin cars. Is price a mistaken? Do cars have light ups? We think you sell good things. We not understand price of things though.

Fair question. Yes, the price is correct. Is is actually a discounted price. While these cars look like Marklin, they are more detailed and feature such details as interiors which many Marklin passenger cars do not. One reason for the price is that these are limited run models. Companies like Z-Bahn does not have the reach as that of Marklin and cannot do large runs. The larger the run, the more cost effective it is to produce. Small runs tend to be more expensive. This is true also for FR's cars which tend to be more expensive. But in cases of FR, runs are typically 30 cars. Think of it this way, each run has fixed costs. These fix costs have to be spread out against all cars in the run. The smaller the run, the fewer the cars to cover the fixed costs.

Not many manufacturers can afford to stock inventory and will not commit to large runs. This is the reason for the small runs. This is especially true for small start up companies like Z-Bahn. But companies like FR and in my opinion, Z-Bahn, are making exceptional products and having a piece or two in your collection is very special.
