I haven't finished even one of the first Centerbeam kits and now you got me wanting these beauties! Look easier to assemble and decal too.
Yes, much easier. They use peel and stick construction for most of the assembly, which takes about 30-45 minutes. After sealing and painting, the decals are laser precut for easy application. You can build and paint 3 of them for a Saturday project.
Guaranteed? It takes me half of Saturday to FIND my work desk. Oh, maybe that's Friday's Merlot talking. I may have to start making some of these little beauties. Bill Mock
Hi Rob, good to get the hands on those now! Looking forward to assemble them, I'd like the precison of the laser cut parts and the burned smell from the edges...
Wow!!!! These small beauties must be gold plated too, their almost double the price of the 61' Centerbeam Flats. Must be inflation in a recession, or the extra length AZL trucks and couplers or maybe Roberts retirement fund!!!! Cheers, Bob
Hi Bill, thanks for your trust in my skills I honstely have considered a laser a while ago, but coudn't made a business case out of it. And just for fun it'a a bit to expensive (for now...) BTW: I don't see the prices double up? $24 to $29 makes for me 16% more expensive, but it's 61" to 73" that's nearly 20%. So it's a bargain
Spectacular Rollingstock! I am the owner of several of Robert's Centerbeams. I believe I was one of the few that purchased from the original First Run back in 2004. Several months ago I received several of the new 73'ers for a trade with Robert. I knew about these for quite some time. Robert was just waiting on AZL's Med-Shank Coupler/Trucks to release it. Robert, can you post a photo or two comparing the size differences in your Centerbeams? Might show a richer comparison!!! Cause in Z, siZe does matter! Hobo Tim :msmile:
...don't forget, cost is also a function of lineal cutting distance, which also means selling price is going up with more detail. We all know Robert is ALWAYS pushing the detail envelope. ...don

Lasers? Just out of interest how much does a laser cutter cost? Looking at the detail you can get I could see all sort of uses for one doing early British wooden rolling stock like Cattle vans and Milk trucks. I still own a pantograph engraver which is fine for a lot of the gauge 1 stuff I do but won't get down to Z even using a diamond tip cutter.
Around $13k to $15K for the basic American model, Chinese one are available for less, but support is worse than what I currently have with Epilog Ben
