The photo was of a single loco with the three paints on it? Or... three locos together? Any chance of finding that photo?

    Hi Glenn,

the "repaints" you have seen here so far where not just ordinary repaints, all locos got detailing too, so it doesn't matter really what MTL is releasing. When you detail you have to paint the engine in most cases.
Only on Ebay you can find some pure repaints, and they interfer with (future) MTL releases...

    Garth,

Or maybe Canada Post has decided to help themselves to your package. From my other Canadian friends that send and receive parcels on a regular basis... this seems to be a common problem.

Things going missing has not been an issue with me with Canada Post and that maybe because I do not get delivery to the door but to a P. O. Box as I live in a village and this has been the way it has always been here. THis means there are two less people who handle my mail out of site of supervision. But Canada Customs can slow things down and it can get sidetracked there but I have never lost a package so far. Montreal is the slowest clearing point of entry and usually things from US western provinces do not enter via this location so not sure what is the hold up. I had a package form Japan mail 2 days alter arrive already SAL so go figure.

    cheerz Garth

That's the one. It would be cool to be done with the MTL's! Sure would make a colorful lashup.

    Garth,
I feel your pain, but it isn't me. Pkg was sent on the 10th. Once had Canadian customs hold up a package of track for 5 weeks. What's their problem?

    I'll try this again.
It takes about 11 Canuck business days for anything from the US to arrive up here by mail so that works out to about 2 weeks plus a day minimum as our PO and Customs only work Monday to Friday, no week-ends for them. I'm hearing incoming foreign mail is only processed at Vancouver and TO now, cost saving measures as the PO only makes a profit of about 120M these days. If customs gets the package and opens it for whatever reason you might add a week onto that total. About the only way around that time frame is to have the package sent UPS or Fed-Ex and then clear the item yourself if you have the time and know how. You'll have to pay the HST or GST and PST but it is possible to have an item in 2 days or less although its not a cheap option, guess it depends how badly you want the item.
    Cheers
    Bob

    Loren,
you shouldn't write M16 assault rifle or M1 Abrams on the customs form... :)

This true you are in the province but that make you attractive alternative to those who do not live in Ontario because of the tax, plus I have known Loren longer and had good service from him and he is well connected. So some pain for some gain.

Well I know how to clear stuff via UPS and Fedex but it is too expensive for hobby purchases in my estimation. I have had parcels recently that were cleared in Montreal coming from new England so I think there is still a postal customs facility there unless it has been closed this summer. Had a shipment from Ohio sit there for several weeks in the past in the past year and could see it on tracking site.

Sent a tracer and out it popped in 2 days.

Like I said a little pain for some gain. Got to spend wisely in this economy.

Comments like that could get the bomb squad to blow up the package or incinerate it for practice in disposing of dangerous goods.

Sorry but Guns in this country are no laughing matter at the border and even more dangerous now because our border personnel now carry side arms and wear flack jackets and this started less than a year ago now.

    Hi Garth,

I think the real problem is Canada Post; it starts here in Vancouver. I've had packages from the US shipped and arrived at Vancouver airport within 2 days, and out of customs the following day. It then takes another day or two to get through the central post office downtown, then finally another day to get delivered. If it has to go to Ontario, then add another 2-3 days to get across (what are they using? Greyhound?), then whatever time it takes to get out of Toronto or Hamilton to you. That all adds up to anywhere between 10-14 days.

I have family in Seattle, Vancouver WA, Portland & Salem; one of these days I should arrange a mass pickup for people on this side of the border. The only cross-border shopping we do these days is duty-free booze (what we like to call "rent"), so it's possible that the value of goods could be less if we split it up amongst my family of 3 (sometimes more for a larger family gathering.)

    Food for thought, anyway.
