    Steve (Grey One),
good luck with your job, and I think you did the right thing telling us frankly about your new position.

For me personally it would be O.K. if you gave us information about interesting projects @PWRS, but this is up to you, and all others here on Trainboard.
And hopefully you will still participate in future.

    Pete,
I owe you a most sincere apology. I was the person who contacted you on August 25th. I dropped the ball and failed to get back to you. You are correct that currently only list prices are currently displayed at the site. The module that will allow us to show discount prices is still being worked on. I do not know when it will be ready. You are also correct that as brand new sale rep I did not fully comprehend the pricing structure. That was a definite issue which hopefully has been resolved. Still I cannot state I know every price and every margin. And yes, I believe you would have considered the news to be bad.

I hesitate to discuss any further business here as that is not the intent of this thread. If you would like me to contact you again please PM me with a time and a way to reach you..
    Again, my sincere apologies,
Steve Goodenough - Who screws up, owns up, and is prepared to make up

    Update: (8:05 East Coast Time)
I just finished a very friendly phone call with Pete. We even discussed the possibility getting together if / when he visits Boston. His actual purpose was to share hi experiences with the company in hopes the feedback would be helpful. It was and I am grateful for his input.

I don't even know what "PWRS" is. :) Nevertheless, I appreciate your demonstration of sound ethics here on this board (in more than one arena) and applaud you on your new job.

    Hello Chaya,
    Thank you,
    PWRS is:
    Pacific Western Rail Systems
    pwrs.ca
It is a model railroad company in Canada that does not discount very much if at all and does call its customers. As such some people don't like the company.

    PWRS in perspective

The fact that PWRS doesn't discount has, for this modeler at least, a wonderful payoff: Given their pricing structure, they are the vendor of last resort, so to speak, which means that they might just have a model that's long out of stock everywhere else. And if it's a model you MUST have to complete a consist, paying list price doesn't seem all that painful. Trust me on this one.

I'd also add that, if PWRS is out of stock on something, they will doggedly pursue it in spite of the fact that every other vendor out there will tell you the situation is completely hopeless. And sometimes, they manage to find what you want. PWRS has pulled this off for me under conditions that are, I think, insanely difficult, and it made a big impression on me, particularly because every other vendor in the business told me that they couldn't do anything and (in effect) would I please go away.

Let me add, too, that the PWRS website uses a search technology that is at least a generation ahead of the competition. Unfortunately, it's a bit difficult to grasp at first, but play with it for a while, and you'll see what I mean.

Conflict of interest disclosure: I have no financial interest or relationship with PWRS other than an occasional customer.

Steve, thank you for this thread. I was unaware of PWRS until now, and intend to follow their (your) offerings in the future. I also would like to thank the other posters to this thread for being so positive in support of Steve, and for providing him the opportunity to discuss his actions and demonstrate the honorable and positive person that we have come to know him to be.

I had a conversation with Grey One today. He is a stand up guy. I hope he is successful in his relationship with Pacific Western. Their business model is an interesting one.
I do not mind paying a higher price for good service. I do try not to patronize shops that are list price with no service involved.
I don't expect the discounters to offer the same level of service as the list price vendors.

Pacific Western seem to be trying to offer a higher level of service than othe mail order vendors. They are always improving their web site.

I give them a lot of credit for negotiating the rights to the Saskatchewan Grain Cars.

I haven't bought much from them in a couple of years. I will give them a serious look when it comes time to spend money.

Bryan 9 is right. They may have locos and cars when everybody else is sold out.

I urge other forum members to check out their web site.

    Greetings

You are not going to believe who this is.....

I have viewed the Trainboard site a couple of times in the past. I have never signed in. This is my first time. Please be gentle with me.

I convinced Steve to explain how to get an account set up. I thought be fun to talk to some of since may of you are friends of mine and some of you I have known personally for a number of years.

I'm personally interested in the site, as I to am a true train addict (since 1985 when I bought my first Kato GP38-2 in Multi-Mark). So this should be fun.

I would love to use the Trainboard as a means communicating with a number of you for idea's and feedback.

I model primarily CP Rail, I like BC Rail, CN, BNSF, UP, DRG, CSX, NS. (Now you know why I refer to myself as an addict). So I mostly like stuff I've seen in person, so I primarily focus on modern stuff.

My grandfather, was the Head Conductor of the CPR "Canadian" between 1944-64 so I also have a soft spot for CPR in that era.

One of my reasons for starting PWRS was to finally get some of the items I always wanted for my layout produced.

I hope this is fun. And I hope to make a few new friends

    Mr. Huberman,

Let me be the first to welcome you to Trainboard!

You would not be the first manufacturer or sales rep to get ideas from this board. I think it is a fine idea, and you get almost nothing but strong opinions around here.

I would love to see some more BCRail offerings. A lot of old BCRail equipment makes its rounds through my area. Lately, I have seen several opera window BCRail (though with reporting marks NOKL) centerbeam flats and if I could find some I would probably buy them. I tend to order things through my LHS in Portland, Oregon.

If you are looking for ideas for locomotives, I am constantly trying to add to my PNWR fleet.

    Cheers,
    Adam

Welcome aboard, Dan. If you've already lurked a couple of times, you probably already realize that this is a pretty friendly site, loaded with good info, great pictures and helpful people. I'm sure you'll enjoy being part of TrainBoard.

    Best regards

Thanks Adam, but do me a favour. My Dad's name is Mr Huberman. My name is Dan.

Please don't be so formal. If you want to talk to me about specific idea's please feel free to call me if you want to. The toll free number at the company is (866) 840-7777. I would love to talk to any of you. Remember I to am a "user", I also suffer the same withdrawal symptoms as many suffer when nothing we all want comes out.

There are items on the board re BC Rail, I can't discuss here. But they are on our radar screen.

Thanks Hytec, if you ever want to see the new "Customer Extra Net" call me and I'll arrange a personal tour of what we built. We have additional enhancements coming to assist all of us find the items we are looking for. We always try to employ or apply technology to give our customers better service.

So what's new??? I bought all three of the new Atlas GP-35's with small Multi-Marks. I really liked them.

    Dan,

I tend to do the Mr./Mrs./Ms. thing until someone directs me to do the less formal. It's part of my training.

I agree. My dad is Mr. Robins. I am just Adam or Hey You or, around here, SteamDonkey74 or SteamDonkey or just SD74.

Those things I mentioned were just suggestions. I tend to pick stuff up as I see it (and as I can afford it). I am building up the Portland & Western collection (defined broadly, so that means just about anything they use for motive power or anything they might pull, too) and I am getting into Nn3, too. There may not be much of a market for BC Rail centerbeams, but then again they may be the best sellers to date.:tb-biggrin:

We are a finicky bunch, we model railroaders. I am amazed that the various company reps still have any hair left, that it hasn't all been torn out.

Next time I come to B.C. I'll bug you for a tour.

    Dan-

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

I note your mention of BCR. We have a Fallen Flag Forum for that company. I'd sure like to hear from folks about their memories of that company, or it's predecessor, PGE. If there's anything you'd care to share there, please do!
