I lean heavily toward the $250, or much less.

THERE ARE NO SCREW HOLE CRACKS BUT THERE IS TOUGH UP AT BOTH ENDS OF THE TRAINMASTER WITH A LIGHTER BLUE PAINT THAT WHATS THERE-NOT SURE HOW THIS CAME ABOUT- COULD OF BEEN DONE AT THE FACTORY AS A TOUCH UP WHICH IS MOST LIKELY WHAT HAPPENED-

Yeah, right. Last run, 65-66, sold by Madison in 1980 as new..okay...opened 10- years ago by owner...really?

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/LIONEL-POST...-IN-THE-BOX-/391216367628?hash=item5b1650080c

$1350.00 BIN for those who'll bite without pulling the shell and have a look.
    Interesting.
    But, opinion.

Oh, my. We have dropped a full level in games.
"736 locomotive rare maroon over cabin"

No. Can you use the term "moron" on TB?
Somebody painted the roof of the cab with ruddy brown primer. You can even see the overspray at the top front.

Almost all of mine are that way..because I like it. Maybe this is one of my old ones.
WITH the tender it came with, $75 tops, as it's "modified", not "rare".
Without a tender, with a poor owner paint modification, oh, fifty bucks for the engine alone.

BIN $475 plus shipping..for an engine with no tender, and owner-applied paint modifications, which kills any and all originality.

Oh, and the class light jewels are gone...must be a "factory error".

    Opinion.

Listed as a 2333. Yet all the number boards I can see say 2343. 33 had no Magnetraction, 43 did.
Maybe he's opened it up and seen the 2333 brush holders, which are totally different than a 2343. And not shown us any of those pictures.
Or, maybe, just maybe, the owner changed out the number boards. But why all 4? You change one engine to 2343, leave the other 2333, and you have two road numbers.

New portholes, at least one not fully inserted. Fans hand painted flat black (Floquil?), looks like same stuff has been rubbed in the side screens.

At least one rear ladder is missing from the assembly.
Aprons scratched badly. Shells nicked and dinged.
Box is in worse shape then the locos...and it says 2333, so if they're 2343's, wrong box anyway.
    Tested, lights work, doesn't run.
    Bad thing to say.
    Better:
"We sell furniture. We cannot test these"

    As-is, 125.
    And throw the box away.

    Opinion.

Maybe some value for someone who is purely a runner. Not much at all for a collector. If I were in the market, there'd be no interest from me at all.

Operator/Runner, buck and a quarter. NOT $325 for those.
Plus you have no idea how bad the brass axle gears are, e-unit, armatures.....none of that. Pig in a poke.

Notice one variation is color of the GATES.
    http://www.tandem-associates.com/lionel/lionel_trains_3656_operating_car.htm
This one mentions the yellow platform, not a lift out, as later units were. Comparing the photos one sees in the unit in question grommets on the ends to hold the platform in place. And early ones had a chain across the end where the ramp goes. I see no chain.

Now, look closely at the tabs on top with the holes that retain the gates.
See how the paint is all flaked off when someone bent them up to get the yellow gates out and repaint them orange?

No matter. Condition/Condition/Condition, followed by COMPLETENESS.

    No ramp.
    No chain.
Paint is lousy poor, as in repaint time.
    No controller.
    No controller track.
No car (and these came as SETS), and no horses.

Based upon condition, completeness, and questions on orange, if I needed one of these and knew it would require locating the car, horses, controller, ramp separately, plus a strip and re-paint, five to ten as is, I don't care if it's early or not.

    Opinion.

What threw me off was their "Yellow Painted Base" title.

    Clueless is what they are.
Hundred times the item's value, can't figure out base, ramp and platform.
Now, if this was a complete, mint, boxed set from 1949, we would be having a different discussion, but still not what he's asking now.
This is junk found in the basement of the house you just bought.

I had a friend once, in the crawl space found a #47 crossing gate set and gave it to me.
    This is the set:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/LIONEL-PREWAR-No-47-DUAL-CROSSING-GATE-RARE-/380442919775
Rusted..base so rusted through and out I pulled the gates and pitched the base. I still have these old gates on my railroad at an industrial crossing.

I certainly would not have put them in that condition on evilbait for a lot of moolah.

The problem is, some yay-who with money burning a hole in his pocket and shXt for brains will buy it and just encourage these clowns.
Like sellers who split loco and tender, sell them separately.
Buyers need to refuse to even consider such, leave them stuck with the stuff.
But, no, idiot buyers just keep buying carp and then re-listing it.

    Opinion, again.

You can see the offered car is missing the two tie downs, replaced with one shiny new rubber band, it seems.
These are somewhat desirable, as they were the biggest freight car (in length) Lionel produced up to that point.
Someday I'd like to have one, but not for that price.
I have seen mint in original box for double that.
Maybe he figures half a mint-in-the-box is a good price.
Our favorite seller from Arid Zone A.

Interesting. Nicked, dinged, scratched. Even the spotlight shell is..something wrong. Like it had DullCote and some scraped off.
Thirty bucks, 8 to ship...and the selling point is the maroon generator..which is absolutely pristine. As in, brand new. As in, let's put a repro on as the old one was busted to heck.

Roller is worn a bit....activator shoe is rough..but the wheels look again, brand new.
    Buffed and oiled?

    Odd.

    Opinion.
