First of all, are you sure they are from 1927? There have been some fairly nice reproductions made. Can you show us a picture of a box or two? Or list the catalog numbers?
The reason for the question is this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MTH-LIONEL-...-Sound-o-gauge-train-11-5510-1E-/351277575221 You didn't tell us the cab number (which is the catalog number), but that track, that power pack, the absolute high condition, those are highly likely NOT to be 1927...1937...47..57...most likely 2007. Nickle plating...yet the drivers look chrome. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MTH-LIONEL-...DARD-GAUGE-28-STRAIGHT-11-99003-/391040095950 That's the track. The power pack appears to be a CW-40, definitely new. Packaging behind the trains in your photo is modern, not circa 1927. A collector would give you nothing for it. http://mthtrains.com/11-5507-1 One MTH set, new track and controls was 500....used and scratched, maybe half that. There is a WHOLE lot of MTH reproductions listed on evilbait as "original", but there are clues. Boxes....got some photos?
Value would be what someone might pay, the day you sell it. Keeping it, we can only give it the old college try, to perhaps get in the ball park. This site *might* give you a slight idea: http://www.traincity.com/price_guide/pllist.html
If my eyes aren't deceiving me, this ad says "C-8" for condition? Dirty, well used, missing doors is "like new"? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Lio...064252?hash=item43e4a89cbc:g:g~IAAOSwT5tWKvyz
Maybe it was special run where lionel took it and beat it against the ground and then sold it as a limited run!
This is a lot closer to where such sales should start in price. Missing a few cans, and I wish there were a few more photos, but...: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Trai...980762?hash=item33ac4bcc5a:g:nEEAAOSwAYtWPQTd
Looks more like a barn find, where a horse sat on it. At least they aren't seeking five hundred dollars, but this is still not worth anywhere near asking price. Mostly just parts here.: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Lio...413530?hash=item419f797d5a:g:zAcAAOSw9mFWGpji
Maybe ten bucks delivered. Gon is so shattered....caboose roof corner gone.....corrosion dug into finish on the box and tank pretty deep...loco corrosion....you'll never fix that. When the red paint is rubbed clear off the handle of the power pack, you know it's got heavy use. Maybe they're charging by the pound for rust and corrosion? The 6424 might be okay..but the original automobiles aren't there. There's what, five pieces of rusted track?
Am trying to figure out why this beat up car is worth twenty five bucks. I would not even pay $2.50 for it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Lio...933051?hash=item3d085721bb:g:oosAAMXQfvlSgBsj
Nice that it has a two year "Warranty", (warranted by the seller?), but somehow I still can't justify the asking price: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Trai...488542?hash=item2105382d9e:g:lmMAAOSwYHxWN42u
Garbage for sale? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Post...441765?hash=item4d3b019725:g:NT0AAOSwQoFWPlmr
Holy cow! Another at a decent starting price: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Trai...269216?hash=item567dd48d20:g:EkwAAOSwniRWNtbY
It's not. Condition-condition-condition. He just made a mistake and put the decimal point one place too far. Two fifty, delivered. Opinion.
Timmer must do it hisself. Lionel sure isn't. I never paid more than ten bucks for a 1033, and that's no shipping. Opinion and experience.
