Nice looking paint job. I don't know why, but I have never done very well with re-assembling steam locomotives.
Ya it's hard to do. This is the first brass steamer I've painted. I'm surprised it runs after I got my hands on it haha.
Just a little long-term project. Converted from a Meyer to an Articulated, added tender, changed cab, reworked valve gear. More work than I'll ever do again. Runs well, pulls teeth. Dave
"Meyer" is a European design, where both engines pivot under the chassis. The manufacturer of this engine decided for some reason not to make it the Articulated it was shown to be on the drawings, but a Meyer to go around very sharp curves. The engine was a tank design with no tender...the rear coupler was a joke, swung full width side to side, if you put a body mount on, on a 4' radius, the coupler was outside the outer rail. So, many years of work...re-engineered the chassis....fixed the rear engine to the chassis, that was easy. Fabricating the pivot from front to rear engine, the slot and mount to affix the front of the lead engine, weight, pressure, drop the cab floor, make a new deck, mount a new cab, fabricate new foundation for backhead, and the list goes on and on and on. Trestle is 27 or 28 feet long, five foot high in the centre, made 18 years ago from old cedar fence boards. Dave
Hi Midniteflyer1 where is the Engine house from, did you have plans ? Regards Karsten (Telluride in FREMO modules)
Very interesting looking engine! I can understand that it must have been an awful lot of work, but definitely worth it. Congratulations. What scale is this?
This weekend I got some time for the 4x 18"x 31 1/2" FREMO H0n3 Modul "Pandora Yard" the turnouts got ties and a watch box for the turntable end got (nearly) ready including light in and out Regards Karsten
My Yard got green and had the first FREMO H0n3 meeting behind. Some more pic. So I focus on a case for transporting the H0n3 rolling stocks. It take one C-19, 1 K-27 and 46 or 48 cars... hope one day I have so much Regards Karsten
This view catches my eyes. Looking down the tracks, I see wiggly rails. Just like photos I have seen of the real thing, after long decades of use.
No pics yet but I am going to be adding a HOn30 line to my layout. It is going to be a mine train with two different spurs for car storage. I have some Peco HOe track on order with two switches. One area of concern is the route I am taking it will require a trestle of some sort and not sure where to start.
A trestle on narrow gauge such as you are planning can be a much less substantial than standard gauge. The load on stringers and bents is a lot lower than the tonnage of standard gauge.
I am thinking a wood trestle to show age. My dads layout was HO with a small mini train running the mine. I inherited the layout and since I am building anew I found a way to incorporate this idea into the new layout. His railroad was a freelance called Dorado and Silver Mountain based in the 1930's. I have changed it a little. The D&SM has been purchased by the Utah RR and it is now modern today. The Mine is still in business and still runs a mine train just a little more modern but on the old tracks and right of way.
Working on the bus.. Got the rack installed on my railbus tonight. Might start on the trailer before I hit the sack.. Or not... The rack is out of Evergreen material. Looks like this project might be near the end! A little more info on my blog.
Finally found the stock list Barry had for a year ago. He had one rail bus kit left, sale pending. So it appears they are no longer available.
That's too bad, cause it's a neat kit. If the power setup is available, that might work on the Jordan bus. I'll have to order one of those kits and see..
