Must have been somewhere in southern California? Looks like I can see palm trees in background of the lower photo.
I was looking through some old stuff from the Mt. Rainier Scenic today and thought I would post this one. Probably did in the past. 2012, Polson Logging # 70.
The fine old turreted depot still stands in Union, SC and is still owned by Norfolk Southern. The late day sun and moon caught my eye yesterday. Up through the 1950s, a 19 Mile shortline named the Buffalo Union-Carolina railroad interchanged with the SOU here.
This is a nice mood photo. Some how I'd never heard of that short line. I am guessing it was abandoned?
Yes, that's right. I think it was purchased by the SOU and operated for a number of years, than abandoned. I thought it might have been a logging road (its service area bordered the Sumter National Forest), but it was a textile road.
Saw about a month ago. Took the chance yesterday, making the run up and hoping they would still be around! Ex Canadian National units, now OMLX lease units. Pretty ratty condition!! OMLX 9522 OMLX 9570 Yard units on the Great Western in Ft Collins. Yard waas loaded with AOKX 2 bay hoppers. From what I saw, there were maybe 200+ hoppers sitting there!!
I was literally on the wrong side of the tracks in the shadows, but I nonetheless shot this photo of a Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern coal hopper headed north on a train in South Carolina. I wonder if an industry uses anthracite in filtration or perhaps for manufacturing fuel pellets for home stoves? Anyway, I thought this was a cool sight with it's vintage Reading Company look.
You have a good eye my friend -- it was indeed in late afternoon. When I shot Kodochrome, I used to love that time of day with it's warm light. Kodachome loved the sunset spectrum of colors.
April 1989 in Cresson, PA. The flyover bridge has since been removed. In typical PRR fashion, it allowed trains to exit the main and jump over it to access the branch without fowling the main. MO Tower (also gone today) was nearby.
While we're set up at Cresson, PA, this was MO Tower. Taken same day in 1989 as the photo above. They tried to save MO, but when they tried to move it, it simply fell apart. Closed in 1994, it was razed in 1998.
