OK, I happened to be reading this old thread and I have to add that the weight in the cab is not an indicator of later, Kato or Chinese, manufacture. At least some of the Rivarossi-built units have the weight there too. As a matter of fact, the picture at the start of this thread looks exactly like the Riv-built loco. My Riv Santa Fe unit has the weight and runs very well too. By the time of these locos, Rivarossi had pretty much solved the shortcomings of their N scale motor. Doug
