atsf_arizona, thanx for the G scale picture and link to Barry Boggs, I enjoyed it much. I would have to gut my basement to have a layout like Barry has in his basement. My tracks go thru rooms, so it has to stay on the floor level, otherwaise I would never be able to walk from room to room.

Also I was surprised at the picture size comparisons from HO to N scale

Why did I visit the N scale section???? The N scale section is a booming happening place, just like a big party I figured I would come in and see what it's all about.

Hats off to those N scalers who custom paint and modify thier trains, I could never do it.

We go through life encountering people who tell us "No" and give us rules and restrictions.

But the only one who keeps us from achieving our highest potential - is ourselves.

You could always tunnel from room to room. Imagine trains traversing Mount Laundry Room, then bridging Spare Bedroom Valley... :D

    EMC trainman, you're welcome.

Actually, Barry's layout is not in a basement. Instead, it occupies most of the
2nd story of his large Houston, TX home. In this picture, you can see how he
suspended a large DRGW viaduct (Lobato Trestle?) above the entryway of his
    home. It's just incredible:

To most model railroaders, a train derailing and heading for the floor is a tragedy...wow.

That has already happened to me, my fistr try at G scale was a wall mounted elevated railway which was just in the one bedroom in the basement. I never thought of gaurd rail until the train hit something and the locomotive went smashing down 6ft to the floor. The End of my wall mounted railway in 1999.

Here is a couple of pictures I will share here.

This is what was the bedroom down in the basement, now converted to what I call the "Yards Room". 3 main lines travel thru here and train cars can also be stored in yard branch lines. These 3 tunnels you see here go thru the work shop. The last tunnel opening has been finished recently with a portal.

Here is a shot in the "Yards Room" in the opposite direction. 2 main lines go thru the wall and the 3rd goes thru the door way since there was no room to take it out of the wall with the other 2 tracks. The chair is my relxing place to watch the trains run thru.

This is my Mallet pulling a train from the main basement area thru the laundry room into the work shop and then in turn goes thru the yards room. There is 22 36ft woodside freight cars on this one.
