Stopped at a hobby shop in Kirkland WA on Wednesday. First shop I have been near in several months. I was impressed with the "N" inventory on display. Picked up the items I was looking for and kept a tight grip on the wallet on my way out the door. Stay safe,
Hi Mark, When you have a chance to test the Kato uncoupler tracks, please mention here how good they work? Thanks.
Oops... double post. Hmm... Post...? That re- minds me of Post Great Grains Banana Nut Crunch Breakfast Cereal...
Kiz, Already done. The track works great for my application. I am working on adding diaphragms to passenger cars. Once diaphragms are installed, it is difficult to impossible to use a "cocktail pick" style uncoupler tool. That gets old real fast when trying to adjust the coupling distance to fine tune the gap or adjust coupler height. The first uncoupler track is just off center in my bench-setup track. It works great to uncouple the cars I am working on. It helps to have the trip pins installed! (Ask me how I figured that out.) The second one will be installed somewhere on Test Track III, which needs to be built soon. Which is my way of saying I have not tried it out in the intended application. Stay safe,
My new pair of tweezers that hold tiny screws arrived la My new pair of tweezers that hold tiny screws arrived last night. Me and those tiny screws just don't get along so it remains to be known if I should thank or blame Mr. Moose2013 for this purchase.
I bought one to experiment with and agree that it works great. I have an industrial spur on my layout that is a wee bit hard to reach and plan to install it there. Hey, by the way, those are cool looking Kato bumpers you are using. I bought a handful of the ones that look like they're built of rails as also seen below, but I think I'll buy a few of the kind you have for variation.
Can you stick a magnet on those tweezers? If so, put a small neodymium magnet on it and NO screws shall escape your grip!!!!
I’m starting to realize why guys say N scale is too small to work on. Heading over to O scale and selling everything. JK. On the other hand the delivery companies have been turned into USPS during the pandemic. My coffee for Robert CSX did a east coast tour - Raleigh => NJ => PA => Raleigh And being on the end of the UPS route really really sucks. Half the time they don’t deliver the day they say, then everything does arrive, it’s at 7pm.
Does anyone have/use this setup? Considering buying..... does the gray thing hold all the pieces while you assemble?
I had it about a decade ago. I didn't like the gray thing, although I don't remember why. Maybe because I assembled the couplers "manually" back when my close-up eyesight was still good.
I have one. For me the only things I use are the tweezers, trip pin height gauge, coupler height gauge and Greas-em. The gray thing (Assembly Jig?) holds the coupler box bottom half while trying to insert the centering spring and cover. I never could get it to work. At a trade show a factory rep was demonstrating on how to use it and even he was having a hard time.
I have had that set for a long time. Still use the various pieces regularly. The tweezers and height gauge see the most action. The other day I went looking for unassembled couplers without success. Shop only had the assembled ones. However, I still have quite a few older kits from back in the day and that jig comes in handy. Stay safe,
I've got the print file up ( HERE ) for a .... .... 3D printable assembly aid but ... you can also make something... easily with a block of wood... More pictures and info on all of that ( HERE ). Sumner
Ordered Kelly's Cafe for my strip club. Ordered another Coverall Paints factory so I can build it from scratch. On the hunt for 50' undecorated freight cars with opening doors.
