Never to late to dance!! I've been noodling around the idea of submitting the 60' for consideration. Our Z version has done very well...above expectations. I don't see why on in N wouldn't be successful as well. Thanks Joe
OH MY! Thanks Joe, and George for your replies, I am a runner and not a collector so if any "6 packs" are made available then i will buy some to bolster my wagon numbers, in fact in the next few days i expect to take delivery of 5 MTL Pennsy runner packs of 4 wagons to a pack. My steamies will get a tryout to see if they can all haul 20 boxcars around my temporary track. Cheers Eliot
late to this one but.. late arrival but here's my 2 cents! 1) 50' paper industry box cars (CP rail, CN, CV etc.) 2) Modern refrigerated box cars with the reefer unit end (like TILX) 3) CSX Ortner hoppers
Runner Packs Here's a couple of ideas for runner packs; UTLX tank cars Western Fruit Express reefer cars TOFC flat cars in original Trailer Train and newer yellow TTX I know that last one was mentioned earlier, just want to keep it at the top of the list.
Any black tanker. I honestly don't know why Atlas makes any other color. A year after a tanker car release, you can get any color except black. Soooo, Walthers makes a passenger car, and decides to duplicate the only car we have. Sure, it's better than the ConCor car, but... How about a heavyweight car core kit? Crank out the core car (no sides), then mold the sides in plastic and pad print them. A shopper buys the core car and then selects one of the pad printed sides from the rack and snaps it in. Kinda like the Walthers building modules. :teeth: Microtrains Snappers (you can even steal the neato name!)
Snappers! Great Idea. I may have a few black Atlas tank cars for even exchange or what ever they cost me.
Duplication Alert!!!! Regarding the 60' flats - they are in final tooling by Intermountain and are coming out later this year... What you should consider is re-tooling the bulkhead flat - which rides too high - and seems to have it's sides out of scale...
Notice Thanks very much for the heads up!!! The last thing I want to re-create is the FT! I have a bunch of other candidates, so they will move ahead. Thanks again, I really, really appreciate you letting me know this. Cheers Joe MTL
Throw down Nice... a little twist here...hummm Promise to never produce any of this! ) Cheers Joe MTL
Reefers Albert, I like this car a lot and have had it on the table before for consideration. I think we are getting to the point where this car makes some sense in our overall catalog. I'm less worried these days about trying to do something that hasn't been done and more concerned about providing a balanced catalog with a full range of car styles. There are a lot of subjects out there that could use some polish, but every now and then you get a gem like this one! Cheers Joe MTL
Well, I don't know all the issues with the FT, but the pair I have are some of the best runners I own. I keep looking for the other pair of numbers you produced. Someday I hope to have both. A beautiful model and a great pulling engine. Sorry to hear you felt it was a mistake.
Not a mistake... I'm sure Joe is proud of the work done by Micro-trains on the FT and doesn't mean that the model itself was a mistake. The head-to-head competition against Intermountain Railway was the mistake. Not that there was much of a difference in either model... but rather... that they split the market for the models and made the release less profitable for BOTH manufacturers. It would not bode well for either of these manufacturers to compete head-to-head again and split the market.
Since the Southern is what I model, how about a bay window caboose(with the yellow bay window), a tobacco hogshead car, and a 100-ton wood-chip hopper?
How about something that us N-scalers have been long overdue for. I know one was produced several years ago by Con-cor but it was a rather crude model. How about a good high quality Baywindow caboose!:teeth:
