In photos of the rear of these units, some had yellow grabs and some had red. I like the look of the red ones so I did this one with red grabs.
I think this GP40-2 is going to be next. Only one SP unit, GP40-2 #7668, was made to pair with SP Fuel Tender #700. The four others were all Cotton Belt GP40-2 units, #7250, 7634, 7636, and 7649. I will do this one as the SP 7668.
A little note about the SP Fuel Tank. It was just that, an extra Fuel Tank. The 5 modified GP40-2's had connections to draw fuel from the tank, and that was it. The Fuel Tank had no MU connections so it always had to be used at the end of the consist, since any engine behind the Tankcar would not be MUed to anything but an air line!
I basically try to keep the hole centered, and then keep test fitting the Sunrise front light package.
Nice work, but damn I miss those sunrise parts Still have a few left but nowhere near what I need to do all the units I have.
Wow Jerry, Looking good. I am also putting together this experimental consist. I have four out five of the required GP40-2's(I am working on aquiring one more). I have the MT fuel tender and the Kato Zephyr 10-6 sleeper to do the Instrument car #252. You are an insperation! Have a good one, Wolf
Hey Jerry, Re: Lenses for your lights, I have been using .020 fiber optic. I flare out the end with a soldering iron then paint the back silver or red. And whala you have working lights.(no mars, but at least they come on). When I get home tonight, I will try to post some photos. Plus a package of fiber optic will last about a life time. Have a good one, Wolf
Jerry, Here are a couple of projects with fiber optic head lights: My work in progress PA(I'm doing an ABA set) I'm mulling over in my head, what to do with the number boards. SD44R 7399 (about 13years old) Have a good one, Wolf
