Juerg, It will be great to have you in the heart of Z country production. We'll make it special for you. Bring Torsja too!!
Also- If you are going to make a "Special" car- whatever- I hope those of us that can't make it won't be counted out. Fred I hope the convention is a great sucess.
Book was on the back burner, but I'm wrapping it up this summer. As for the Convention car, I would vote to make it available to the membership wether or not you made the show. Joe
Medford is about 280 miles from the airport in Portland for those of you considering the rental car option.
From Joe, (car) "available to the membership"??? Is there something we might be missing here? Cheers, Jim CCRR
The only problem about taking Amtrak to Medford is that Amtrak does not go to Medford. The closest you can get is Klamath Falls and you get there in the very wee hours in the AM. ------Steve from the other Phoenix However, you can fly into our shiney, new Rogue Valley International Airport in Medford. Really nice and the runways are not dirt or cow pastures.
Unfortunately Amtrak does not go to Medford. It travels East to Klamath Falls which is about 1 1/2 hours East of Medford. Go figure!! Oops Steve, I just saw your posting.....redundancy is only necessary with NASA
My bad. Despite my repeated efforts to take the Coast Starlight between Eugene and the Bay Area it has never happened. There has always been some sort of weather event or conflict, and one time there was a rail strike. I bet that I saw Medford in a schedule for the Thruway bus or something like that.
Friends, when I attend the show, I'll fill my bags with all the stuff I can get from Rob Ray, Jeff, Joe D and Karin and trust me I've big bags
Initially we are looking at something that has a membership option later on...cards, numbers, free parting gifts, scented car fresheners... ) What we are attempting to do is create a National Society for Z scale and ultimatly have our own internal and external communications vehicle...news letter etc. Nothing on par with the NSC Mag, but something that goes with the Web Site we are creating as well. Again, this is just something we are working through...nothing firm. How that effects the first convention, I don't know...I suspect we will make it as easy as possible for anyone to attend regardless of their level of particiapation. Joe MTL
you are killing me.! i have to be back (at this point) by sunday a.m., May 2nd! i don't see how i can do it if i have to drive 2-6 hours on a saturday night just to get to an airport(with reasonable schedule times to Colorado), wait around an hour+ for check-in, then 2+ hours flight time, and at least an hour drive home (once the baggage has finally been disgorged). so much for "in and out" on a weekend. anyone have a private jet? dave f.
We have a spiffy Internationl airport here in Medford...heck I'd drive you to Portland to make a flight if necessary. Can you do some sort of three stop thing? Joe
Joe, it isnt a international airport unless a 747 can land on it. Medford must have a commuter flight to Canada.
Actually we have the Russian version of the C5-A here all the time picking up fire fighting helo's from Crane. I even watch the Navy E-3 (EC-135) land here quite often. I suspect a 747 has a greater stall speed and would end up in White City at the Dutch Brother's Coffee drive up, but it could still make it! Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport Joe
I would not be in favor of a national society run by MTL. I know you guys are behind the NSC Society, but MTL historically has not played well with other Z scale manufacturers. An MTL collectors club would be one thing, but if MTL is really going after a national Z scale society, then the base is going to be fractured right from the start. I sincerely hope someone steps up to create an independent society.
Joe, You weren't here when President Bush landed in his 747 before his last election. Yup, they can land and take off just fine from Medford.
I think you have to read all Joe's replies, to not read something out of context, because in a prior post he said this: The above quote leads me to believe MTL is just trying to get the ball rolling, and let us Z Scalers take over and run the show as we progress. I talked with several of the attendees of the N Scale Convention in Portland, and from what they say, there are all kinds of N Scale manufacturers bringing their newest products to show, and room sales for custom painted and decorated trains, so it sounds like all N Scale manufacturers who wanted to be were included there. So from the sound of it, once we are members of the "Society", we, as Z Scalers, will determine the direction it takes: I'm all for a Z Scale Convention!
Well, this is sounding wonderful to me. Just a straight shot up I-5 for me... OK 14 hours, but a straight shot. My only concern is what to bring - bike? fly rods? I'm penciling it in on my calendar! Bill Mock
