AC 12 weathered 1. Copied from original photos. Wheels are almost white from blowdown valves kicking up dust and ballast. And yes, the tender was THAT clean!

Amazing Bob! Could I humbly request a "how-to" for steam weathering in the Steamers Group? So far no one else has posted to my thread on steam weathering. :(

Thanks Mark. I'll see what I can do. Cheers, Bob.

Beautiful job! I would also love to hear how you did it! :)

Thanks JD. I have copied thread from Steamers Group for you:
My most recent steam weatherings have been with Acrylic paints and chalks with Dullcote combined. The AC-12 was done with paint from Custom Model Railroading Products by Joe's Model Trains , the paint used for his rather novel track painter. I poured some into a plastic tray and let it almost dry. Then with a cheap small brush, applied it.
I used Shale for the wheels, Weathered Black for the motion and Brown Rust for, well, rust! Normally I would then use chalks to "fade" the paintwork, finishing with Dullcote, but this particular loco was quite clean on the upper body and tender, so I left it as it was.
The hardest part is having the nerve to start on a brand new loco!
