I have also been working over a Tichy Derrick and work train For the QA&P. The Derrick and Boom car are Tichy, the bunk and tool car, I aint sure about, the Baypula caboose/box is my creation. I would like to peddle this train as I have another in service. Make you a heck uva deal. More on the work train. I was looking at images of a very similar crane that currently sits in Granby CO. The operating station interior was painted what was told to me as sea foam green. QA&P 002 002 002 002 QA&P 028 Boom car with the details inside. QA&P 028 Spreader bars, torch bottles, spike and oil cans along with non-potable water. And again thanks for taking a look.
That looks rather dark for Sea Foam Green. My first car, a '55 Ford Fairlane' was white and sea foam green. At night under street lights it looked completely white.
Tom- I do wish that people who when weathering cars like to simulate aged rust, would look at yours. Your hue of color and application is spot on, perfect. I see far too many who lean toward incorrect reddish or orangy results. Well done, sir!
Had this older (plastic) Walthers 8 axle drop-deck flat. I wanted to modify it to resemble the Kasgro Rail (KRL) 38181. I stretched the load deck from 20' to 38' to match the prototype, turns out the other dimensions match too, 68' over the end sills, and 92' over the strikers. I filled the deck voids with lead shot and glued them in with CA. The biggest challenges was trying to get some the piping in to match the plumbing on the ends. Used some IM trucks w 36" wheels that lowered to car a bunch, looks way better. After some mods Now mostly Red, still details to be added, need to make up some decals. Shown beside a RTR car. Now with some decals a put together. Hoping to come close to this. From RRPictureArchives.NET Now after weathering. There was a challenge to weathering this car as all sides, trucks the wheels all needed to be weathered all around as the span bolster made the trucks so visible, it took me 2 days to get this much done. Below are a few different views. Getting that brake pipe hose the wrap around underneath was a challenge on its own. I didn't put those FRA yellow reflective stripes on it as that dates it a bit to narrow for me. Now to load it and get it into service, I don't know, I might make the load removable to run it MT, it fairly heavy with all the voids filled with lead shot. I hope everyone had a great 4 of July weekend, if you celebrate such things. And as always thanks for stopping by and taking a look.
I have been working on modifying a Tichy crane. I wanted to put a small Detroit Diesel in it, so I finds a 6-71, only thing it was in the Chech Republic, well I ant scared so I order it, its 3D print amazing detail to it, It took 3 weeks to get across Europe and the Atlantic, hit New York and was here 3 days after that. It filled up what space I had pretty quick, I decided to make the Detroit drive a hydraulic pump to transfer power to the hoist mechanism (hey, my story right) that way it would be a clean and actually doable thing. I cut a place for the radiator in, I attached the fan to the hoist house, it just barely fits over the motor and exhaust, all I need to do now is add the hoses to the pump and walla. Now to wash the parts and get some paint on it, still a ways to go. I see I still need to make a rain cap for the exhaust atop the house. Always something else to do. Thanks for takin a looksee.
Nope. Never heard of Ralph ratcliffe. Sure wish I had known I will look for a website. See what I get into when your gone.
wow, great modeling...the Southern Pacific had a steam powered crane that they used in Arizona in the 1980's, it is at the Arizona Railway Museum, and it still has the boiler
