Been updating, repairing, weathering some locos and rolling stock over the past month or so.
The BN SD40C before some mods.

Now after some upgrades like eliminating the old Blue box side sill shell mounting lugs, converted to coupler box mounting. and updated Cat exhaust and ETD antenna placement, based on some images that were uploaded since I built this thing.

And now some mods to the BN SD40-2 7149, one of two SD40-2's modified for a short time to run on LNG. The Burlington Northern decal on the E side long drooping towards the rear had given me heartburn for years, so I decided to fix it. That turned into a real pain in the ***, but it was worth it.
    As built.

Now fixed up and weathered up a little, didn't want to dirty this one up too much. I actually caught this unit on a STODEN a few months after I modeled it. We were rotting away in the siding at Plain about 20mi west of DV, I carried that old Chinon 35mm film camera with me and got a few images of the 9 SD40-2's we had on the train. Of course I noticed the top of the cab was actually black and not Green, so while I had it apart I masked off the hood and painted the Inertial filter housing, cab roof black, the nose was already black. Those little things one wouldn't know unless they had the roofer madness images. Maybe I post those images on another post, reached the limit on this one.

Beautifully done! I must be one of a few Frisco folks that actually liked the looks of the BN painted SDs.

Yea, some Frisco guys are still sore about the merger. But man, it was over 40 years ago. BN has been gone over 25 years.

Back in the early 1990's, before I even got a job with the RR, I saw this car sitting at at the White Water concrete complex. Now there isnt a model of the car had to ct a couple bays out of a similar car to get the correct car, then painted it and applied all those letters individually, any ways a lot of years ago.
    The prototype;

Thanks Dale and Mike for the comments.
Mike, no sir, I didnt model the LNG tender, there was enough mill work just to build the locomotive LOL. It was a fairly complex loco to model a lot of Cannon & Co and other parts on this old BB Athearn.

I've always wanted to build both, even have the decal set for it. But alas, too many other projects.

Sorry for so long in responding Mike, I been in a colossal modeling funk for a while. Need to find my way out of it and get something done. Those LNG units were very unique locomotives. Some think they just put a SD45 rear section on the SD40-2 hood, not the case.
There was a lot of metal work on the prototype and a lot of plastic sheeting and milling to the model. For instance the differences on the ends of the long hoods.
    For example an SD45.

And below the LNG unit 7149, I had on a train in 1997.

Some time ago, I took a box of crane parts out and thought. Why not try to make something out of all this and maybe sell it, so it don't all go into the trash.
These are Concor hoist houses, and Athearn crane booms with old BB Athearn flat bottom gons and a bunch of styrene for the boom tenders. I even used parts of an old Athearn SP loco shell to make the tool houses, The stack looking thing sticking out the top of the tool houses is the winding tool for the boom and hook purchases.
Made one for the SP Texas division and one for Roseville divisions, painted one fresh and one very faded, along with some decals. Added a couple plastic trucks and a couple boxes. I had some fun, and got rid of a box of spare parts too.

Managed to get a couple gondolas done lately. They are MDC cars the repainted one has some brake rigging underneath and cast on grabs removed and a ladder installed on each side.

The below was a Golden West Service gon, that has been thru the re-weigh thing and heavily patched for the QA&P.

Had an OP session yesterday with some great friends. We ran 6-7 trains ranging from a 30 car road switcher to 65 car manifest and a hotshot pig train. And not one derailment, that is rare.
All images by friend, author, and well known photographer Alden Armstrong. He worked his magic on a couple images. Posted with his permission.
