Congrats Jerry!!! Today is Robin and I's 30th anniversary but no plans , just waiting to see if I can go back to work:tb-hissyfit: Mike
Jerry, Happy anniversary. It's funny how your modeling rhythm flows opposite than most of the rest of us. When it gets nice out, my basement layout gets neglected for gardening and other outdoor pursuits. But your garage layout flips the script for you. Do you have a workbench in the house to while away the winter months detailing and kit building?
Tonight I applied a little more static grass to the green house area, put a small tractor down, and glued the green house in place. Still want to get another tractor and more detailing down. I cant believe the amount of cob webs back on the 'trees' already. Its enough to drive you crazy! LOL
Exactly Jerry. That's why there is a dearth of trees on my logging extension. Like you I have an outside building for my trains (layout tour of years gone by). Do you have any plans for a logging area on your layout or would that place it too far north? Al
Jerry on the cobb webs, have you tried putting down bug spary on the exterior permeiter of the building, the interior permimter, and your layout vertical posts?
This weekend was looking forward to more layout work, but, as life goes...it didnt happen. Saturday, I got up at 430am, left at 5am for Chattanooga and my rules class with the Tennessee Valley. Instead of ending at 5, it ended after 6pm. I took my General Code of Operating Rules test, New FRA electronics ban test, Safety Rules test, Air brake and train handling test, Engineers test, and the Chattanooga Division and Hiawassee Divisions tests. Thats a LONG day!!! This is the start for me to operate 610, 630, and 4501. Next month I will be back for my NS rules class and test. Hoping to start my observation trips and then move to the operating hours needed. So, getting done late, I turned my cell phone on to learn that my wife was driving up to have dinner with me and her car broke down on 59. Since the text was 4 hrs old...Long tests!!!!....she was already picked up and drove home but the car was still there. On my way home I passed it and it looked OK. 30 more miles down the road she called to say a friend of ours was heading up there with a trailer and would need my help loading the car. I turned around and waited till 830pm, he came, we loaded the car and off we went. By the time I got back to Gadsden I was in no mood to model!! Sunday, I was called for an extra job to train a student engineer on a Gadsden to Birmingham train. 12 hrs later I was off work and tired and again....no mood to model!! Today, worked my regular job, got done in 10 1/2hrs, came home, ate dinner, worked out...can you believe that! LOL...showered, and now its again too late to model because I quite frankly right now am tired!!
Jerry... I dont know about the rest of em...BUT...I like hearing about your REAL railroad work almost as much as the layout. Railroading is interesting no matter what scale...even 1:1 :tb-cool: .
Jerry,I reckon you would have just as many followers if you started a "job" thread! It would be mighty interesting.Like Charlies:thumbs_up: Cheers Stu. ' '
I would love to do the 'Classes' again.....but cameras are now included in the 'electronic' ban by the FRA.
Are there links to those classes anywhere? I remember reading them a long time ago; are they still online? I visited the Tennessee Valley Railroad this past May...only got to do the short run to the shops and back but it was great fun!
I have removed all the classes when the ban was first getting started so I couldnt be accused of taking pictures after the ban. John Coots and I were going to get them published and while the project was started, John passed away. After giving the family time to settle everything, I contacted Johns son to get the material back. He said it would all be mailed to me as he did not want to continue his fathers business and I could finish it if I wanted on my own. I never recieved the material, and later learned he was arrested and was going away for awhile, so I can only assume all has been lost.
