Latest purchase is an ABBA set of FVM GP60M's, in Santa Fe warbonnet. Shipped out today and should be here Saturday.
Yesterday I visited the R/C LHS to pick up some servo linkage parts so I could get two of my turnouts on the west end of my Emory Center Siding module linked up to my Tortoises. Takin' a break from that project right now, but I should have the throwbars "throwin' " sometime later this evening! Gotta get the track running for the upcoming NMRA Show in SLC the first weekend in November.
This past weekend at the Temple Tx train show I picked up three decoders,, one TCS cn and two digitrax k2's for my rs-2's. And volume 2 of the best of the Soo Line on DVD. see ya, wyatt
I ordered an Athearn Challenger (CRR) that will be relettered and detailed for SP&S. Should arrive today ;>) John
Kato lighting kits for my new Kato Santa Fe diner and lounge cars. Now I will have to get up the nerve to take them apart to install lights and passengers? http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/data/554/CausDinerSma.jpg
I've been in an 'aquiring mode' ;ately...still not much time to model, but getting some done here and there...My F7 fleet is 'almost' where I want it (still need to acquire 4 more warbonnet B units...and still need a freight A-B-B) Finally received the Head End Car reference book, and won some Life-Like E6 undec A-B units; bought a KATO CB&Q E5 to see if the drive will drop fit into the Life-Like E6 shells (it does!), but the KATO unit is so GORGEOUS I may keep this one and super detail it! Also purchased the 're-released (by Walthers) Life-Like DL-109 in ATSF (stored serviceable in my modelled era- 1957)...It's a really nice unit; the drive is first rate and much better than the mechanism used in the LL E units...whisper quiet (quieter than a KATO unit) and pulls a ton. Of course, I had to add a second, centered headlight to portray the unit during my era; it also received the extra vent grills that the E3-6 unit fleet received...should be fun. You may also have noticed the second, center headlamps already added to the undec E6 units...Evergreen tubing worked real well for this no visible seam at all...will be much easier to model these E units, then paint. Also bought an undec KATO E8/9 shell with dual headlights and 'freight'pilot...will remove the dynamic brake fan and paint as an ATSF E8m for the El Pasoan (Great little article on this train in the most recent "Warbonnet") Not shown are two yard sale scores, a NIB zebra striped GP7 with torpedo tubes and a zebra striped GP7 w/dynamic brakes. Thanks for looking, ~Bruce
I just bought one of these to see if I can tear it apart and use it in a car or locomotive. We will see. Mike
My latest "purchase" was not a purchase but a FIND. I have been cleaning out my mom and dad's old house and garage. Have a carload of stuff I brought home six months ago to scour for family treasures, etc. A lot of tourist brochures, maps, etc. from 1930s to late 1970s. Going through what I assumed to be old highway atlases- one titled Summer travel Guide. I was about to toss it, when I noticed it was NOT old highway maps. It was a 64-page guide to vacation spots which could be traveled to by Missouri Pacific Lines. The inside cover talked about leisure travel being again possible after "four long years of self denial" (ie. the war years 1941-1945). It promoted top-notch travel on the Sunshine Special, which was superseded by the diesel-powered streamliner Texas Eagle in 1948 as MoPac's top-of-the-line train. Also mentioned a Saint Louis- Colorado Rockies- Feather River Canyon train called the Scenic Limited which seemed like a steam-powered heavyweight precursor of the California Zephyr. All these date the booklet to the 1946 - 1948 period. The best part for me was a 9 x 12 inch full-page spread on Galveston, the city I am modeling on my layout under construction-- including views of scenes I am building. I am taking this page out to frame for my train room to document the scene.
Kato GE C44-9W BNSF Heritage II No. 4972 Now I just to finalize a layout and build it!! It's all done except the work!!
Starting the Fleet You can never have too many Railbox cars, right? 4 new FVM for $50, shipped. He shoots, he scores!!
Just received my order from the States, Athearn UP Challenger 3985, Bachmann B & O EM-1 and Bachmann SP S4 Diesel switcher, along with decoder wire and an 0-80 drill and tap set. Tested the locos on my test track at home, all run superb, set their road numbers without problems (NCE PowerCab), I will be taking them to the club tonight for a good trial run, we are so spoilt in this hobby now and America is only a short wait for goodies to get to us Down Under USA Modellers. The only beef I could present is the gap between the loco and tender in both steamers, I realize sharp curves have to be catered for, I just wish there was a multi position drawbar like the HO Scale Bachmann 2-6-0 I have.
Found 2 NOS @ my LHS MTL WP FTs A-B/B-A # 901. I need to take them a part and clean them. pretty sure all the oil and grease had dried up.
I got this lot of 27 NS, NW, and SOU rolling stock off the bay for a song and I simply could not pass on it. It is a mix of Micro Trains, Atlas, BLMA, Walthers, Exactrail, and Bluford Shop's cars.
Picked up Timko's _Railroad Critters_ vols. 2 and 3 and also the SP&S coach cars that CCS released just recently.
Lets see, in last two weeks I received 5 PM 2-bay Covered hoppers in Winchester/Western and Family Lines, 6 under Walthers Ballast cars, 2 MT 100 ton coal cars, 2 SD50 bright future CSX unnumbered locomotives and one shell, 6 trainworx Maryland Midland 100 ton hoppers, and sent away 13 MDC CSX waffles, a Kato UP CW44-9, Atlas SD60 CSX ghost. I think I'm good for awhile.
