Supersteam posted this pic in the Challenger thread (Sweet looking loco)

I noticed above the Challenger were shells of the F45. Anyone have any new info on these?

I'd love to hear any new info as well on these future Athearn N scale models, in particular, Santa Fe original FP45s.

    David,
Tracking on that second thread ....that first one is ancient :)

I know that Athearn is gearing up to produce an F45 (dont know about the FP45) in N scale. I was just wondering if there are any updates on info like roads, projected release dates, DCC, etc.

Thanks for the info nevertheless :)

Expect an announcement relatively soon as the Athearn personnel expected delivery in mid-late summer.

Patience will be rewarded, as Athearn will over several runs produce all road names I'm sure.

I have a video dated 1989, and these are shown running around 'the loop' in ATSF and SPSF paint schemes !

    Very Cool looking ;)

Look at the shell on top right. Steam generator space, only three fans... it's a Milwaukee FP45.

This I can not argue with (well ok I could but I would be WRONG). I like the GN Sky Blue scheme and if they make one.....I will have to own at least one...:)

those in the know say that they will be releasing 2 MRL F45s ... and I would imagine 2 BN, 2 GN, etc ... (they like to do things in 2s)

I have 2 sar kits, and have yet to finish them (GN Big Sky Blue), but I will likely get an MRL and a BN unit as well...

I belive the BN and ATSF are out first. As george said, the anouncment should be soon. The tooling was very crisp and clean. The tooling is basically done and they will be ordering the first run within teh next few weeks.

I will probably get a susy-q, but I'm really waiting for my Mass CEntral CF7

    Daniel Leavitt, others,

Any idea which of the various Santa Fe F45 / FP45 paint schemes are due out first?

    There are quite a few:

    Warbonnet:

    1. FP45 early numbered 100-108 (1967-1969), small Santa Fe lettering
    2. FP45 renumbered in 59xx series (1970+), small Santa Fe lettering
    3. FP45 modern Super Fleet with big Santa Fe billboard

    Freight scheme:

    4. FP45 in freight scheme (1972 or so)
    5. F45 early numbering (1968-69)
    6. F45 late numbering (1970-1972 or so)
    7. F45 YellowBonnet (post -1973 or so)
    8. FP45 in YellowBonnet (post-1973 or so)

    Thx.

    My guess would be a #1 FP45 Warbonnet early and a #5 F45 early ?

    :)

Looking forward to seeing the FP45's out and on the hobby shop shelves. I've waited long enough. Santa Fe, Silver and Red Warbonnets will be welcomed in ceremony on my layout. I might get the local highschool N scale marching band to play their hearts out. Oh, and not to slight the ATSF Blue and Yellow Warbonnet freighters, making the pull. Ok, cheer leading sguad let's hear it. Give me and F, give me a P, give me a 45...we want them today, not tomorrow, we wanted them yesterday. Go Athearn go, pump it up and put them out. Hurrumph, not much of a cheer. Anyways.......Get with it and get busy Athearn! Grin!

Ditto that. I have some photos somewhere of a Big Sky blue F45 coming down the Highline onto the WP along with the usual rag-tag assortment of power used there in the early 70s. No doubt, there will have to be an F45 sitting on what little of the WP I can model.

I'd guess a yellowbonnet F45 would come before a billboard scheme, because that scheme lasted longer, and I believe more N-scalers in general model the later time frame.
