I will work on adding the track tomorrow too, and have to add a new section of benchwork so the track can reach the other side with the new loops. So as of now I cannot operate.
This is a problem I am going to have to deal with in a few areas. The original trackwork was in the middle of a narrow base. I have to squeeze the other line in somehow. In this photo you can see the original cork in the middle, and two new pieces added to the outside of each side. The two new lines will be sitting halfway on the original base, and halfway on a new piece of cork. It will be tight, but it will work, and running two seperate trains will be worth it. Once I add anymore of the ATSF benchwork this will not be possible so I have to do it now. (I also think this is the reason I have been so slow to advance the ATSF Line. I have always wanted to double track the SP.)
Other little things I did was give the 'ocean' a good cleaning.....and what a difference it made! Also added a little more static grass here and there. Thats about it for now till tomorrows progress.
Good to see you get in there and give those pesky rodents the what for!!!!!!!! Looks Good Jerry !!!! Mike PS can you help me get my avatar back ?????
It's cool to see you having the opportunity to get working on your pike again, Jerry. I am looking forward to seeing your progress.
I did just finish the first layer of ground and gravel in the tank yard. (Just couldnt wait till morning.)
Jerry - nice to see the progress shots, again! So, all Pinole needs now is a flare from a cracking tower, or a brown smoke plumebiggrin:
Jerry, I'm a bit confused....perhaps it's been too long since I've seen the track plan for this part. Was it a single track that looped back around to head back the other direction to make it look like it was double track on the scenic portion? How are you changing it?
Matt, yes, thats how it was......one loop that looked like a double track on the sceniced portion. A train would go by in one direction, and come back on the other track. I am making it where each line will be it's own loop, so I can run two trains, one on each line on the sceniced area. One freight, one passenger. One freight in each direction. Two freights in the same direction at different speeds....etc. Much more possibilities then I have now.
Today I got most of the tank area glued down. Still aways to go, but I like the way it is coming along! Will get some photos posted later today or tonight.
I feel you're pain about not being able to operate! I get the hebe-jee-bees when I start teearing up track on an expansion or maintenance. I'm looking at an expansion that will take my flipped over dogbone and turn it into a true dual mainline. I don't really want to loose the overall single track run time around the layout but it sure makes east and westbound trains easier. IIRC, you're running with DC control so the dual mains is almost a must. You know, if you really need to get some trains running, you could invest in some Unitrack and throw down a temporary track for the short term to get up and running again!
