WIth both Alan and Matt finding extra space for layouts, things are looking up for the Curtis family, railroad-wise. Good on both of you!
Yes Paul, there are strip lights in the loft, but I need more lighting across the end, to take the pictures I had to use flash, which I would rather not have to do. For close-up shots I use a daylight bulb in an anglepoise lamp.
This picture shows that as this building was against the wall, it was not detailed, but is plain styrene! Instead of altering it, and extending the scenicked area, I am going to put the backdrop sky boards across the end so that the scenic part of this end of the layout ends as it did before. Just the track through will continue to the staging and continuous run.
At the other end, I put the backscene board at an angle to allow a larger area for the flour mill yard.
Also as can be seen, I am rebuilding the paint factory into a rectangular building and have curved the main line and backscene. Backscene board is not yet fitted - just propped up for picture!
At Wakefield show I bought a Cornerstone background building to fill the gap against the backscene on the left. Boards are being laid around the loft for the main line and staging sidings.
Might have to pick up a pack of those, we have a residential neighborhood along the backdrop of our new layout, backing on to the yard, and I think they would fit in great!
There are lots more details in the kit. All the fences, stuff in the gardens, etc. I stopped building them when I decided to move the layout and remodel that area. I look forward to finishing them.
Excellent, I kinda envisage a row of back yards along the edge of the yard. I'm trying to move it away from the usual '15 feet of DPM industrial flats' that lots of UK show layouts end up with, (nothing wrong with that, but our layout is meant to be a small-medium sized town, so we need to look like there are area's which aren't buried under heavy industry - sorta suburban rather than urban on that bit!)
I have not been keeping up here. Nice work on a big project. How about this: Here I am using a cutting disc to remove the sections of track across the baseboard joins. That is a quote from earlier in the thread. I did not understand why you were removing those sections of track. Were they damaged?
