Not too often are there any MRL hoppers in G'dive, but these have been here a couple of days now.

I don't necessarily like the graffitti, but here is a seriously messed up one! Yuck.

    Enjoy!

Ugh. How many thousands of dollars in damage to that MRL hopper.... Sickening that some garbage out there doesn't care.

Had a train full of tankers setting across the Sidney branch bridge at Glendive the other day, and the weather was perfect for a few photos....

Either oil or sugar syrup from the Sidney sugar beet plant. In either case these are probably empties headed north to be reloaded.

Caught some more 40-2's in service here last week or so. It warms me heart to see these old horses still pullin!

I hope those Dash 2's are around much longer. Would like to see a few more in road service. Somehow I always seem to miss any that come through here.

Yeah, me too. While not steam, they are very much a raw and powerfully versatile and reliable locomotive. Purty too!

Had a Valentines gift today as I watched the sunrise at Hodges. It was gorgeous and then this empty came flying down Beaver Hill towards Glendive.
    PIC_0700.JPG
    And a video, of course!

Yup, the MRL stuff went elsewhere. The yard has been a lot of empty lately, due to the general slowdown in the economy and coal.

Caught this some what rarer coal empty heading west on a river bend just outside of Miles City on Thur. Had a trip with the wifey to Dr and Denture Dr's. Always an excuse to have a mostly relaxing getaway and see some trains!

I'd sure like to catch power such as that Dash 2 in ATSF colors, coming over my way.

It's getting pretty much only Orange n Green/Black here lately. A couple of Green BN units and some Grinstein green MAC's all sitting stored sums up the color. Quite the change since last year!

Yesterday morning proveb a fruitful and exciting 'fanning day. I finally found my way to the hill overlooking the wye om Glendive's west end. And. there was lots of action to watch! First thing I saw was an crewless autorack train setting there waiting on the main with a crew climbing aboard an empty on two track. The lighting was right so I found my way up and waited for their departure. No sooner had I gotten up there, 0900, than I hear a horn blowing for something heading in from further west! Two coal loads came in before this empty got a warrant to leave! It was a cold and brisk 20F outside and my camera ran out of memory at the end, but it was fun!
Nothing but orange and black units, but they are trains! And from a modellers perspective!

That is the last of 6 videos, and the longest! It was 10:00 already by the time this crew got out of town!

And the first coal load coming in at about 09:15.

That is a cool vantage point. Will it be as good come summer, when all of the vegetation is green and growing?

There wil be some trees in the way, but all of that will provide for some interest and some great background. This is a neat and very model-genic wye. A bridge on the tail that then splits across the fiver to go to either Sidney or Circle. On this side there is the old barn, the homes and a hayfield. Fun stuff!!

Saw this guy getting set to leave yesterday, so headed out to a vantage point I can use and took this video. The blizzard going on down Wyoming way put some white stuff all over the coal and units.

And finally saw one of the NP logo'ed grain hoppers. Neat, even if it was just to keep control over the name and logo by BNSF. Now if it only had NP reporting marks!

We hadn't had any snow yet, but this coal load brought some up with it on Thur. This is just east of town after the train gets around the curve exiting town over what used to be called "airport hill." So then they can puts the coals to it and build speed on the way to Beaver Hill.
