I wonder at what charges to shippers? Does Lindsay still ship any loads? I was looking at Google Earth and the track is quite overgrown.
I'm not a specialist but in my opinion this unit is a C40-8W (2-section side of fuel tank, vs 3 for Dash9, AC4400W and GE's subsequent units), and its trucks look like the standard ones... Dom
Thanks Dom! More school for this steam head! At least it was in my favored paint scheme for CSX! Lindsay ships by truck as does Richey. Unfortunately......
Had tp make a trip to Billings on Sun/Mon and got in a bit of fanning on the way. Caught three trains in action and saw quite a few. This grain train was slowly powering up on exiting the Custer siding eastbound. Just east of there is a cut through a tall bluff that used to have a tunnel. You can see the tunnel portal towards the end of the video. At Forsyth these were setting idling away waiting for crews. And look! It's a lost Borg unit! Haven't seen many non-BNSF units around lately.
Had the grandson for the weekend and we went out yesterday for ice cream and to watch trains! It is convenient as the ice cream shop is directly across main street fro the tracks! Anyway, we had some good fun watching a bit of action in the yard and my young railfan learned a little more about trains and how to 'chase' them around! We saw a set of coal train power cutting off, some empty coal pushers getting knuckled in a stack train pulling in and an NP grain car. I put up three short videos afterwards last night. Here's one with him watching the empty power, the other three are on the youtube page there. We also saw another of those NP grain cars, which he spotted first! And squealed! And our last find was a pair of GP's sitting with empty gravel cars waiting for Mon. Even a BN green one!
I dunno about how many there even are. But I did get a quick drive by video of the gravel pit spur and the GP they lease to move cars around with..just for you Boxcab!
And I caught some MOW action the last couple of days. There's is a second video of a parked set of MOW stuff I just put up too.
It was a tight clearance ease by as the train was leaving 2 track while the gang had 1 track and the main tied up. He was doing a lot of little horn blasts before I got stopped and spotted, so they may have had it fouled a bit. It was definitely a fun catch and fun to watch!
And I saw another bit of maintenance going on with an empty easing by thr MOW crews. And then I just couldn't help myself and took a good pic of the badlands around here. They have stayed very green this year. And three fallen flag trailers.....
Depot Derailment! Grain train dropped 6-8 cars last night on two track and 4 or more rolled over! Went downtown for a haircut and saw them working on it. Yeehaw! A video will go up on the tube later, but here's a couple pics to wet the appetite!
And here's a video link. There are still two laid over this morning yet, and a bit of track equipment there too.
A few more pics of the wreck clean up. The grandson and I spent a bit standing here watching them get this car upright and ready to roll over to it's new trucks. It's a fairly long video, so will load it up later. The pics loaded backwards tho, so the left one is the last....
Neat seeing how accident clean up goes with Trains. Not much different than an Aircraft incident. Thanks for sharing
