That's a 'pretty' red passenger consist running through the scene. Is that a Frisco consist or maybe a Texas Special? Or... perhaps a Rock Island Rocket. Sent from my SM-J737T using Tapatalk
Thank you for your response Calzephyr. It's the Texas Special cars but the locomotive isn't, I have Texas Special locomotives being painted by Richard Fisher of Challenger N Scale. They will have the fluting on the sides and should be done soon. Richard does a lot of painting, don't know where I'm at in que. Joe
Ahhh that actually was my first thought... but you have an observation car which has not been produced by a current manfacturer yet. I had a Texas Special set from ??ConCor?? Over 30 years ago which was not too well done IMHO... so I sold it off cheap at a swap meet. Since then... Lowell Smith and Micro-Trains have put out some nice models. BTW... keep up the great work on the layout!! Sent from my SM-J737T using Tapatalk
I have both sets of ConCor Frisco passenger cars, the observation is Joseph Pulitzer and the other is Tulsa. They made Oklahoma City also but I don't have it, still looking for it. Joe
Back in the 1980s - 1990's ConCor was virtually the only maker of passenger car sets. The few others, Rivarossi, Rowa and Minitrix did not make a variety of products like ConCor. The problem was that molds used by ConCor did not really match the consists and some were even produced in mirror image (backwards). I chose to get rid of them when Kato began making some better quality passenger models. Unfortunately the cost of 'quality' over quantity is significant. And now... back to your great layout Sent from my SM-J737T using Tapatalk
Just finished painting the darker blue on background panels and will go back with light blue to blend more. The block on panels is a handel to make it easier to install and they are painted because they will be left on. It's a tight fit trying to slide them between the layout and overhead valence and it takes two people to install, they are 16 inches tall. All of the other panels look like this one. Joe
I found some shelf brackets at Lowe's that would work to support the layout instead of legs. They would fix some issues with the benchwork alignment where they meet. Ekena Millwork. P/N 18445108 Get this model number. M/N BKTM01X10X12TRBL WOW, seems like they could have a shorter number and be just fine. Maybe it's a launch code for missile site or Navajo Windtalker. Haven't figured out how to do a screen shot on my phone and did Google how to but it didn't work. Sorry guys. Will go to phone company later this afternoon to find out how and post it. They are 12 inches on one side and 10 other, think 9 would be good 3 on each wall for modules 01 thru 08. The south wall is modules 01 thru 03, west 05 and 06, north is 08, in the corners 04 SW and NW 07. When looking at layout it's west to the right is north. Joe
If you have a Samsung phone, put your hand out like you were about to do a Karate chop. Place edge of pinky and palm on one side of the screen. Then swipe to the other side. That should give you a "camera click" sound and the screen shot is taken and placed in your Gallery.
I got it to work this afternoon about the same time as your post. Funny. Did another search for the shelf brackets and couldn't find them but saw one a little smaller, it's 10x8 inches which will be fine. My layout is 12 inches wide on all modules but 01 is 15 inches wide. The turntable and roundhouse goes on that module and have decided to build a module 12 which will mate with 01. It will expand locomotive service area and staging into the closet. The section in closet will be 9 inches wide and have five tracks spaced 1.5 inches apart, this would leave 0.75 inches on each side. Going to install side boards to keep rail equipment from crashing to floor and won't do scenery and ballest. The lighted closest has a curtain where the door was and will hide the staging area. Going to Lowe's later to look at shelf brackets. Joe
I did some more painting background panels to blend two blue colors. One is ready for Cynthia. Most of last night loading Space Station photos on Boeing employee and retired page on Facebook, have 155 altogether and posted 15 so far. Use my phone to take photos of photos. Joe
I've been painting this afternoon using a sponge barely dipped in light blue paint to blend sky. Have three done with six more to go. On a different note, the movie Unstoppable is going to be on Direct TV channel 505 at 3:40pm Central time zone. Joe
Yesterday afternoon finished painting the sky for the background and installed them later on layout. Now it's up for Cynthia to paint clouds, trees, buildings and other details. Still need to fit the corners a bit and will do that after Cynthia gets them painted. Joe
This morning I cut and painted a background for modules 01 and 12. After Cynthia does her thing I'm going to apply caulking to the seams of background to paint and blend. Joe
