On my older diesels, there are 2 copper contact pieces that were installed on mine. One for each truck frame. They ride against the inside of the wheel sets. When I took them apart they fell out. There is only 1 for each truck but I'm not sure if they install on opposite sides of front and back truck or both on the same side front and back. Does your diesel have these copper pickups?

The copper wipers are on the second generation (version) with the shorter motor and plastic fuel tank cover. They should be on opposite sides of the front and rear trucks. On the first version, contact was just between the axles and metal truck halves. Keeping those points oiled helps greatly to keep them running smoothly.

Thanks for the response man. I'll give that a try. The diesel runs better after removing the dcc decoder but this one is a growler. LOL
