Alex, You might find coil loads in N Scale that are small enough for Zee, try Hay Bros and seee what they have available. Generally some of the smallest items in N are also suitable for Z. Bob
There was an article in 'last months' Railraoad Model Craftsman about making coil loads. For the larger scales, the simply coiled strip styrene. That's not tin enough nor will the center roll up tight enough. You can use masking tape from Pactra (really good clean edge compared to Tamiya) and recoil it. Or, use old casette or VHS tape (8mm might be better). .
Coil loads... Hay Brothers Garage makes some covered coil loads. I found I had a set in my collection. Is this considered acceptable (prototypical)?
Alex, Yes, this would be prototypical. Jurg, great photo! That is some heavy duty horse power for the single car. Rob
For those who want a YN2, and dont want to do your own repaint. Theres a GP35 in epray. I dont have any of stuff, but they really look good. CSX Z scale GP35 #4406 New custom painted locomotive - eBay (item 140315517814 end time Apr-26-09 18:30:50 PDT)
Thanks John for bringing it to our attention. A most stunning job. LOOKEE LOOKEE Joe D. this is the one you ought to go with. John I have been remiss in scanning epray lately but after this marvelous revelation I'll give it a glimmer. Thanks bud-d-d.
i'm not answering for jurg, regarding the photo, just giving some info on the wheeling and lake erie railroad. the railroad operates in the area between cleveland, ohio and pittsburg, pennsylvania. cleveland sits just below the erie great lake. i don't know when they started using Rio Grande equipment, but with many units being sold off after (and before) the merger with UP, W&LE picked up many Rio Grande engines (GP9s, SD9s, GP35s, GP40s, SD40-2 tunnelmotors, even). rather than repaint so much equipment they just repaint the Rio Grande logo, and that not always. You'll see many pictures of intact Rio Grande locos on the W&LE, as jurg's photo shows. i'm told that many Rio Grande employees found a home with W&LE as well, after the merger, and bring the same spirit and knowledge from their colorado/utah experience on the Rio Grande to the W&LE. for a lot of us Grande fans, W&LE is bit of "home" -- but in the midwest. Rio Grande forever. dave f.
Thank you for the information Dave. It is great to have all of you that are willing to pass this info on to us beginners.
SW PA If you are looking for good pictures of the W&LE you need to take PA 43 south of Pittsburgh, to the Joe Montana bridge. W&LE runs underneath the bridge.
Good job John, you have really mastered those kits. Especially the roof walks. Was this his latest kit with the upgraded details. If so are the metal end frames easier to fold than the brass ones were?
Harold, I think its easier, but because they are nickel silver, they are harder to bend. Still, I prefer the new version. on the old version, dont let the walkways bend out of shape, because you will never going to straight them up.
Another addition to the CSX fleet. This time its a MK4D reefer. They are used on the Tropicana juice train.
