HCLX 7179 on a southbound Fitzgerald Sub freight north of Mauk, GA. Note SD50 trailing, one of several SD50s I shot this day.
BNSF 8089 leads a southbound NS freight toward Albany rolling thru Ft. Valley, GA. Notice ex-SOU SD40-2 3298 in background...... Speaking of 3298, here's a better pic of the same diesel.
Hope you folks didn't mind me resurrecting this thread, but since I've been in Georgia I've managed to shoot quite a few of SD40-2s, either as Class 1 engines or in rent-a-wreck colors.
Resurrect away!!! One of these days the once numerous dash 2 will be gone forever. It will be a while, but they will disappear........
NS 3307 (ex-SOU), Albany, GA (ex-CofG yard) SD40-2 1649 on the wye in Cordele, used as a switcher. CSX 8006, with HCLX 8148 leading, on a SB junk freight on the Fitz Sub.
Not exactly a deuce, but still a great shot. Any un-Borged SP power is a rare find! Here's another one of my NS shots: North end of Brosnan Yard in Macon, GA last year. I was focusing on the NS diesel, but get a load of the brick in front of it- I have a better pic in the "When Bad Paint Happens to Good Diesels" thread.
Other than being one of the two unpatched SD40M-2s left... 8579 is also fairly unique in the way she was rebuilt. Orginally a SD45 she's had the rear DB blister mated with the rear blister of a SD40, and has the radiator compartment of an SD40 modified to keep the original SD45 rear-side mounted handbrake.
I really needed early morning light for this shot, but hey, matched power these days is hard to come by.
Meanwhile, back in Gawjuh... Shot this on the Georgia Southwestern engine tracks in Dawson. Same power consist has an FP9 in it. NS 1649 (sublettered for N&W), in Cordele
Your picture isn't showing up for me. Assuming it's an SD40-2B, then it did. No SD40-2Bs were built new.
