Been playing with MS train-sim after finding a Milw Rd route someone created, It's the route from Harlow to 3 Forks. A lot of hard work went into this route I'm sure, and I find it quite enjoyable to run a Little Joe where the rails are long gone. Just thought I would share. Now I need one for N Montana division. :tb-biggrin:
The actual scenery in the sim is really quite good, much better than these pics show.

Nice! Wish I had a slightly better computer. Then I'd give these a try.

Sixteen Mile Canyon!! (or Montana Canyon, depending on the era) AWEsome!
If you get the NMD, I gotta see a brace of SD's with a grain load lugging up out of Belt Creek Canyon thru the tunnels and over the high trestles....

If someone has that kind of time to build the old ROW from Harlowton to Three Forks, you know somebody's got the time to finish the line from Three Forks and Piedmont over Pipestone Pass, St. Paul Pass, and on to Avery, ID!

Heck, do all of Lines West!:)

    Hey Hemi, Boxcab.
Boxcab, MSTS requires a 350 mhz proc, 32 woo woo woo ram and a "3d" video card. Not sure what you have but these specs are 10 years old anyway, you can probably run it if you wanted to.

    Hemi
Someone is working on the route from Harlow to Avery, but they are using Trainz Railroad Sim 2006 (you can find a demo vid on Youtube), I have it and don't really care for it, the graphics are not very good, plus this development on the MILW route seems to have stalled. Seriously you should try Micosoft Train Sim,it, it is really neat, I "explored" the route using an Amtrack Bullet loco (for speed only: 144 mph) and ran from Harlow to Three Forks in the winter with snow falling. It was unusually realistic view out of the cab. Besides the program you would have to go to http://www.train-sim.com/, register, and then go to the "File Library", search "Routes" for Milwaukee Road and you will see 10 files to download. It took awhile but it was worth it.

Anyway, Lines North would be really cool, I would love to turn a train on the wye at ROY MT, then run it up to Great Falls and back to Lewistown. Why? I have no idea, just crazy I guess.:tb-cool:

Hey guys, MSTS (Microsoft Train Simulator) will run with a slower machine, but to get the awesome graphics, and to use some of the more "Poly Heavy" equipment and routes you gotta have a higher end maching, take this from me, I use to make 3D models for MSTS, if you goto the file libary at train-sim.com and search for Vanderhoof, you'll see everythign I have done. Mostly european and PRR stuff. my group's claim to fame right now is the release of the K-4 1361, B60b and P70 passenger equipment last year, and the up and comming A-5s and T-1 #6110.

    Cool!
That's the last thing I need; another video game that will require hours of time, and will leave the wife and son screaming for attention... I'm not the type that can just play a few minutes here & there; it usually ends up being 6 hours or more, into the wee hours of the night, going to bed for a short nap, then waking up to go to work!

I've a 3 year old P4- 3GHz, 1GB RAM, and a very good 3D graphics card. But for reasons unknown, this machine acts like it's running out of RAM. Am using WinXP. Which does use a lot of RAM. It would cost me somewhere in the $175-250 range to add another GB of RAM. Which is probably not worth while for my compooper.

I might give it a try anyhow. After all, it is Milw... :tb-smile:

Trust me Hemi, I know what your talking about, in the game, you have the option to save anywhere you may be so you can return to it later. I'm fortunate (or maybe not) , my little ones are now big ones, 19 and 21, both are in college and work part time, so they don't have time for me even if they wanted too, my wife has her hobbies so I get a hour or so everyday to play.

The only computer games I play are Civilization and Pirates, so 6 hours would be a short set.

Anyone played railroad Tycoon or the new Railroads?
I've been underwhelmed with the demo.

I wish someone would do a new version of rails across america.

Hmmm. Did some looking. Appears as though original MSTS is not available. And the proposed new version has no release date. Also noted the new version may not accept older information. So, all those Milw routes, and motors, would need to be re-done?

You can still find MSTS on store shelves though I suspect that's not as likely in more rural areas.

I found mine on Amazon, I think I paid 9.99 for it. There are more.

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-26055-Train-Simulator-Jewel/dp/B00061I9RY/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1195080417&sr=8-1"]Amazon.com: Train Simulator (Jewel Case): Video Games[/ame]

Yes if MSTS 2 comes out, I'm sure the modded routes will not work. If it comes out, appears to have been many delays and cancellations recently.

I'm not sure whether to seek a Version#1. Or wait a bit for a possible v2. Hmmm. Those earlier posted Little Joe graphics have me curious!

BTW- We're not exactly rural any more. Tract housing everywhere. Miles and miles of strip malls. Everything from Lowes and Home Depot, to Best Buy, Borders, Petco, a full size Costco, and, and, and... It's just like suburban Seattle. :tb-wacky:

LOL, If your in Kalispell/Columbia Falls/Whitefish, yes, your are far from rural. The place is filling up with those damn "out -of -staters" :tb-biggrin:

I travel a bit for my job, sad thing is sometimes I forget what city I'm in, they all are starting to look alike

That's my vicinity. I can recall evening commute traffic jams, back twenty years ago. Bleh. It's worse now. Not just quantity of vehicles. But all the stop lights added have compounded our troubles. Instead of helping. Yup. Outsiders. Bringing along all their failures from elsewhere. And making them fail again here as well. :tb-mad:

I agree about all looking alike. Thanks to our colleges and universities....

Oh well. Back to the Milw....
