I've just made a start on a Walthers H10-44. There were a couple of bits missing when I was given it, notably the rear steps - looks like it was dropped at some stage. I've now rebuilt the side steps and the rear platform, as well as removing the CN markings with a fibreglass pen, so I can now start adding a few details before painting. I will leave off the handrails and any grabirons until after it has been painted and decalled, although I'm still not 100% sure what it will be painted into. Jon
Might I suggest a Rio Grande unit 120 - 123? http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/drgw/drgw22.jpg This is really 122, not 22. They make a very nice unit. PHL
I was thinking along the same lines as Paul about what roadname to do. googled around and found this link here: http://www.thedieselshop.us/FM_H1044.HTML Hopefully it will atleast give you some options for your Chicago based layout.
Looks like a good project, Jon! P.S. I have to ask. What camera do you use? Any special lighting? Your pictures always look sharp!
A tad out of place...... Jon, A Rio Grande unit on sweethome! A bit far from home, methinks! I should think it will be dressed in something more appropriate for Chi-town. Would like to request a full report on chip & sound install, as my two Grande units will be outfitted soon. As always, should be fun to see what you do with this one. 2slim
Well slim, in real railroad land just about anything is possible. I found a picture of Rio Grande passenger f's leased to Illinois central for freight duty. As I do like both lines I am always tempted to run some RG f's on my ICG layout. Boxies, as to roadnames for Chicago. Lots of lines ran into Chicago. NYC being a big one along with the others you mentioned. Perhaps a home road paint job Jon? got any SHC decals?
I certainly know that many ran into Chicago. I was just trying to think of those who owned the H-10-44. Boxcab E50
Boxies, Ya skimmed right past the link I found of owner RR's: http://www.thedieselshop.us/FM_H1044.HTML
Geeky- What I meant was my original post had been musing about who owned, and used them in Chicago. Prior to your posting the link. Boxcab E50
I'd swear I had a bookmark. To a different site, that had a lot of FM photos and history. Darned if I can find it now. Boxcab E50
Sorry for the delay, I've been painting and adding decals for the past couple of evenings. I want to dullcoat the loco before making a start on the handrails. Jon
Pat, I'm using my Canon Power Shot A620 at the moment with 7.2 MP. I also have an Olympus 10 mp SLR but the pics take too long to upload, due to their size. The lighting is just the daylight fluorescent tubes from the layout. Jon
Jon: At least it's black and orange, Not Grande gold...but it looks great! Nice work, and fast too. PHL
