Out of the paintshop and ready for Lettering is CSX SD70M 4689. This unit will be delieverd to John (shamoo737) once completed. :-D I still have some details to add, and a little paintwork left to do, like the grabs, steps and mirrors. Details added: Mirrors, Sunshades, Air Hoses, Grab Irons, Eye Botls, Back Up Mirror & Lift Handles. Scratch built: Plow, 5 Chime Air Horn, Fuel Fillers, MU Hose, Antenna, Dome, Nose Door Window & A Long Hood Window.
Eddie, this a case reality exceeded expectiations. I have seen your SD70, so I know how good your work is, but all the details you are adding to my engine is mind boggling. The red hose is something I been wanting to my engines for a long time. Its so noticeable, but nobody has done it yet. How about telling us how you did it. Great, great work.
John, It's a bent piece of .10 or .12 wire. I drilled out the MU plugs and attached the wire to those two points. On this unit both are in the "dummy" plug. I then took two eye bolts and cut one to attach them together, then closed the cut to make a small chain. I drilled a hole and glued them to the overhang and the top of the wire. You can see one still has red paint on it. I need to fix that and make it black. I felt that by adding this detail it would help hide the oversized coupler box. :tb-biggrin:
Great job! Tiny scale also so makes it even more amazing to me.:tb-cool: By the way who makes locos like that in Z Scale?
Looks good, overpainted or stripped? Like those angled grab irons, have to try it too. Just bent with some pliers?
I stripped the unit before I painted it. It's not heavy, the gloss washes out the details. It will look much better with a coat of flat. The grabs were bent with pliers, correct.
Wow! I'm not a CSX fan by any stretch of the imagination, but this is a fantastic piece of work. Certainly on-par with the 89' flats I just saw. Hand-bent grabs? Does BLMA make grabs that would work for Z?
John, you can't say nobody has done that before, my BN GP35 Torpedo Tube got them too (Nov 2007) But I didn't put them on my later engines, really wonder why not??? Must be the age....
The grabs from BLMA are straight not drop style. You could bend them. I use their grabs on my rolling stock. I bent them before installing them.
Eddie I can not wait to see what your layout will look like baised on what I am seeing with your work now! Top notch!
Eddie, it wouln't surprice me. Your attention to detail is second to none. Not only you build museum quality models, but do it at world record speed.
