Pat, that looks like a great project. As for the "then vs now" aspect of the casting itself, it looks like you've already proved what a good paint job can do with a lesser product, and the difference might not be too noticable through the windows. Look forward to seeing the finished product.

Well technically not on the bench any more. The westerfield cars from a couple posts back are done.

On my workbench right now is an Intermountain Canada Cylindrical Grain Hopper kit. I always loved the look of these cars and some weeks ago I finally got my hands on a kit. Quite a pleasing kit to build, happy that I finally got around to assembling it! More pics when completed.

    Hi Alan,

Intermountain also made (makes?) a 5470 CUFT 3-Bay 18 rib covered hopper. I have both, when I bought them in 1991 or so they were $15.00 a piece. Pricey for a kit back then. They are nicely detailed. Let us see it When you finish.

    Main Line Models

I'm just about finished with this Main Line Models kit which is 51 years old. I still need to add the couplers. Those cows will have to jump up into it until I build the stock pen scene.

Those cattle look eager to go on their way to market. No such thing as a free ride lol.

Yep, epoxy and cable ties needed to get tank halves fixed together!

A couple of new projects on the bench...

first up is a resin caboose kit. This kit started life as a Nickel Plate kit but when I found a picture of the yellow WLE caboose I just had to do it.

Still need to finish the end railings.

Next up is the start of a JJl models Lima LS12a switcher.

    I have a spare Kato NW2 chassis...

Guess my next stop is Google!

Well, Apparently I can not edit my posts. In post 814 it should refer to JJL models, not JJl. My bad for the typo. Matthew, JJL is no longer in business. Joe died almost a year ago and the web site was shut down. This is the only kit I have ever seen and it does not belong to me. The customer I am building it for had it for several years before sending it to me last week for assembly. It is based on a Stewart frame/motor/drivetrain.

I have just dragged this project out of storage as I really need another Burlington Northern caboose.

    DSC_1043.jpg

    DSC_1044.jpg

This was started about 8 years ago...

It started out as an Athearn caboose, the cupola was relocated towards the back and extended so it was flush with the sides, new windows was cut into the side of the caboose (although I noticed I missed a small one out on the right hand side!).

I have now added new end rails, walkways grab irons ect, next job is to cut the missing window out and add the final details that are missing such as cut bars, air hoses, stove pipe, vents, all underframe air piping, then paint/decal and weather it like it was in 1974

    Prototype here http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3713945

This Atlas FM H16-44 just rolled off the workbench and onto the layout last night. All weathered and ready to work! Still looking out for a replacement corner marker light as I had one came broken from the box.

Like the paint, decals and weathering job, hard to beat Black and Yellow colors, very clean modeling for sure.
    Thanks for showing us!
